Front brake replacement question

    This is probably a dumb question.

    replacing pads on the front calipers, do we need to keep the factory pad shims in when putting the new pads on?

    I’ve done multiple cars say yes they are required, others not

    My GTI did not require them on my stoptech BBK.

    Are you using OEM pads? If so then yes. Some Aftermarkets have the shims built in.

    My truck @ high speed braking would shimmy after 20000. Dealer cut rotors 5000 more it came back. Replaced rotors and brakes Still shimmies @ high speed braking. Thoughts?

    Update**. Shims out. Pedal seems much firmer and linear.
