I have never done either myself, but Toyota did recall 225,000 frames to the tune of 3.4 Billion and swapped them all out. That was an enormous recall, with taking nearly everything off the vehicle. Were there reports of poorly reassembled trucks after that?

mine was recalled and was rusty , but they gave me a letter saying it didn’t need to be replaced , I sold it without problem with that letter

I’m not sure on the direct answer to your question though

ive owned them all, they all had pros and cons

A rusty frame can be inspected.

A randomly exploding engine is tougher to predict.

What I am asking is if a similar type of enormous recall with invasive and deep work caused issues down the road due to poorly trained techs and work done too quick? I think there is some concern about the caliber of talent who will do this work is up to the task.

Did the frame recall cause other issues when they were swapped?

I don’t recall really anything from the tundra forums at the time about problems from that, I’ve been on the types of forums since 2000 when I got my 2000 tundra in late 99.

im sure there is some that can be found like anything else but I don’t recall widespread or ongoing complaints

I've never read of a screwed up frame swap done by Toyota techs.

But that $3.4B is going to be a drop in the bucket now that toyota has agreed to replace about 102K 3.4 TT (non-hybrids ONLY). Their stock has been dropping - this might make them a bargain soon.

I'm not aware of any issues after replacing the frame and we've had several first Gen members go through it.

It’s hard to compare the two repairs. The frame recall was years down the road not within the first few years; with that said dealers did an inspection of related components that could/should be changed while the swap was done at minimal charge for labor since they were already in there; manifolds, suspension and things like that. So if anything the trucks came out of the recall even better than when they went in for the frame swap

I've been a part of 3 tundra frame recalls at the same dealer @Tundra2 being one of them and no issues that I'm aware of afterwords that were anything major. I think both of us had a brake line hold down that was broken but that's about it.
