Looking to see if anyone is having a similar issue or if it’s just my Truck.

I have an 2023 Tundra and approximately one month ago I was driving and opened my sunroof shade. When I did, I had a strong odor that seemed like ammonia or foul water. When I opened the sunroof I noticed that the mesh screen that pops up when open to deflect wind was wet. I aired it out and thought maybe it was a one time thing. But it happened again today after driving in the rain two days ago. Any thoughts or ideas ? Is this track area supposed to be used to channel water away ? Or is it supposed to remain dry ?
    Thank you,

I thought it may have been a cat at first, as that’s what I related the smell to, however I park it in my garage over night and parked it while it was raining. Honestly I’m not sure what it may be. Thank you for your thought….

This happened to me yesterday. After a long rainy Seattle winter I opened the sunroof and got a terrible moldy smell. No leaks just an awful mold smell. I think it is that cloth fairing piece. The same smell as when you leave wet clothes in the washer too long. Seems to me it shouldn't be getting wet when the roof is closed.

    None yet
Maybe its the moisture from the glass dripping on the cloth fairing piece?

That could be. I could smell it after opening the shade. Before even opening the glass.

Good news is after driving only six miles with it open yesterday the smell was gone today.

Same musty smell on my 2023 Tundra 1794. It’s been to the dealer 3 times with no resolution.
Have either of you had any luck resolving the smell?

Did anyone find a solution to this? My truck is terrible smelling from the sunroof area…the black cloth bug deflector is soaked and a lot of condensation in the area . Vents are bone dry .

I haven't had the smell problem, for two days it rained, and rained pretty damn hard. Then the temps dropped in the low to mid 20°.
I had to run some errands, while driving I had hit a patchy road and started to heard a tinny clanging and rattling above my head left side between the sunroof and doors (front & back) drivers side only.

Due to the temps I guessing it was Ice "thin plate" sized ice sliding in some metal channel between the doors and the sunroof.

I would think that there are drain ports on or in the recessed metal frame that contains the sunroof itself.
The glass is contained by rubber gaskets, and I'm going out on a limb here, but I would "assume" that rain wouldn't be able to penetrait between the gaskets of the glass and metal and allow water to collect in the recessed metal drain channles,if there are any drain ports in the framing of the sunroof.

I dunno,:notsure:I haven't hear it since and we are still in the N.E. cold snap with no temps above freezing.

    Too many, but not enough....
Drain might be clogged that runs down the pillar

    @Davis955
I’ve been able to find the source on my truck but the dealer and Toyota have no recall or remedy to correct it.

Does yours smell like a wet towel was left in the cab for a few days?

I located a “pocket” in the driver side body panel just behind the rear rocker panel and directly under where the driver side rear sunroof drain expels into the body panel/ frame rail. It’s holding water somewhere right in the corner of the body panel. I’ve confirmed it’s there because you can smell it very strong and I can get water out of it by dipping a pipe cleaner in the rocker fastener hole.

My guess is the smell is going up the sunroof drain tube and in the cab vent. I’ve noticed mine is worse parking in the garage with less air movement to dissipate the smell.

Let me know what you find or figure out on yours.

    I haven't looked yet,but I will.
So question for ya,what's the hole opening size and can you get your paws to it?
I have used Galo guns to blow out condensation lines for AC units the PSI is nominal but enough to clear most lines with out re loading a CO cartridge.

Again I haven't looked yet, but since you have located the drain port do you think a 3/8" OD nylon tube will fit into it and have at least two fingers to hold the tubing into place while firing?

    Lots of stuff!
Not on the Tundra but on the BMW after a service, they changed the cabin filters and the smell appeared. It has gone away now so I think the filter had a smell or the filter got wet and produced the moldy smell when ever the HVAC system was used on "recirc"

My limited 2024 is experiencing the same issue. I noticed an ammonia or cat piss like smell. Def coming from the panoramic sunroof. I think it's the mesh vent as well? Anyone else get resolve on this issue? I tested the drains and they seem to drain to the bottom of the truck fails.
