For those that have added OEM door/cubby lighting to lower trims…

I purchased the OEM door lights for my 22 limited truck that shine out through the panel and little cubby hole as seen in higher trims. The lower trims don’t come with the harness so I spliced into the green wire on the L6 harness for power and the light blue for ground. I decided to do the one door and pause to see how everything looked at night since it’s really hard to get a feel for it with the sun shining down. Supposedly taping into those wires should allow for brightness control to work with the dash lights.

It almost looks like my lights are continuously trying to cycle through the brightness settings creating a flickering effect that could also be a loose connection. I’ve noticed when I change the dash brightness that the lights flicker like they’re changing too to but then go back to bouncing all over.

I’m tapped in to the control panel below and those lights and controls are all working as expected. Has anyone had this happen? Do OEM lights have a small flicker to them like this? Any input is welcome. Thanks!

I could be wrong but if your LED lights are flickering, you are providing the wrong voltage for the driver . I went thru similar with headlights in a Venza

I’d first check your wires are correct ones being tapped as the numbers are and odd in to out sequence and there were some wires that made me feel color blind on which was more of a light blue vs baby blue and which it meant to tap.

Second thing would be which type of taps did you use and are you sure it’s a good connection? Added a picture of the ones I’ve used for all splicing so far and no issues at present.

I’ll get a shot of mine tonight to confirm how mine is set up as I’m installing my last one tonight that finally showed up (assuming sparks got me the correct one this time)

Yeah! If you have doors successfully connected it’d be really cool if you could share wire colors. Luckily the whole panel doesn’t have to come off to check that. I’m 99% sure t-taps are secure and connected but I suppose there’s always room for error. I did double check that all however.

I followed these colors from a previous post on the subject (picture)

Am I correct in assuming that I probably don’t have to change the ground wire tho? They wouldn’t come on at all if I picked the wrong wire there, right?

Just a heads up, there are two separate dimmers one for the dash and the second one is for the mood lighting, also the mood lighting isn't always on,I believe that they are on a photocell.
I don't know how many burn time hours your LED's are good for so a switch may be good idea.

As I mentioned in the other thread, look at the pinout position. I think there was a post somewhere that had the color and pin position on the plug along with a diagram of the plug. As best as I can remember when I did mine I want to say it was like the 1st and 3rd wire on the top of the plug. Also, I solder all of my tapped connections. Those T-Taps can work loose or even cut through the wire over time. The wires on these newer vehicles have also gotten a lot smaller. I had to go and buy another pair of wire strippers because many of these wires in newer stuff are 22-24 gauge

Thanks @MaxPayne3. I tried to find an image of the specific harness in the wiring diagrams that are available here on the forum but I wasn't quite sure how to figure out which position is which (which is why the colors are helpful of course) is there a specific image that points to each pin and helps me cross check to the harness that I am holding in my hands as I wrap my brain around what I'm looking at?

Really? Willing to share the wire colors you tapped if you remember or at least say if the pic I posted above looks remotely correct? Strange that they each require different colors to tap. Do yours change brightness with selected dash brightness?

Not the best pictures but headed out to rodeo so if you need better/additional just let me know. You mentioned L6 so this is the front driver. Wondering if you have the baby blue tapped (which I am not using) instead of “light blue”. The pins are stacked on top of each other on my truck

This is one the front door harness plug ends in red, it should be pin positions 1 & 3, verify colors, the rear harness plug is a little different but the pin positions are the same 1 & 3

I do not recall the wire colors from a while back. I only use a Digital Multi Meter to verify wiring.

I’ll have to learn to do that if I’m going to make this a regular thing.

As a general update: because of @Goobax ’s pictures, I realized I tapped into the wrong ‘light blue’ wire for the negative. With your help, I now know the ground is not equal for all things. Hopefully the other doors go better. Thanks everyone!

Cool, hope it resolves the issue.

Attached a photo of the front passenger just in case. The rears are pretty straight forward since same color. Keep us posted.

Highly recommend those taps and consider using an extra harness from the lights to make a quick connect too for anyone doing this moving forward.
