    Hey everyone!

I'm a 22-year-old student, and on Wednesday I bought my first Toyota Tundra! I bought it in Tucson, AZ and drove it all the way to Montana no problems! I have a few questions for you all.

First, when looking at my oil gauge on the dash. I noticed that when I come to a complete stop, the gauge goes down to 1/4, but when I accelerate back to normal speeds the gauge follows the RMPs and climbs back to the 1/2 mark (where it should be). Is this normal and just a Toyota thing or do I have a problem?

Second, I noticed a ticking and almost a hissing noise (not really sure how to describe it) when driving. It occurs when I'm going about 25mph+ and hit the throttle and when I climb hills or pass or really any time that I accelerate beyond 25mph+. When I'm cruising on the highway at a consistent speed I don't hear anything except for that sweet V8. Any ideas for where this noise is coming from? I have read some threads that it might some ground wire issue or leaking manifolds. But this truck is fairly young (118,000 miles) and has no rust so I have a hard time believing its holes in the exhaust. I do know that I need a new passenger side catalytic converter, but the noise is coming from the engine bay area, not underneath the passenger side seat. Let me know if you guys have any experience with this issue and any remedies, or if it's just normal and I should live with it.

Here's a photo of it, don't worry I put new shoes on er haha.

Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers!

Welcome. That oil gauge is normal. It will read low when the vehicle is stopped.

For ticking, it's common for some of the early 1st gens to have exhaust manifold leaks but it may also be the steering shaft seal. Mine made similar noises and I fixed it by replacing that torn seal. Easy job.

A hissing noise I'm not sure about. Maybe a vacuum line isn't connected. Take a good look under the hood and see if anything is disconnected.

Welcome. Not much else to say except what Erik already did as those are my first two guesses. Enjoy the truck!

Okay thank you. The ticking/hissing seems to be connected. I'll look at the manifolds

It's unlikely that you will be able to see anything unless it's a big crack. The steering shaft seal you can actually inspect though.

This guy discusses the exhaust leak in this video. Fast forward to the 3 minute mark if you want.

I watched the video and the issue with my truck is that there is no noise when I start the truck up, and then the noise is still there even after the engine is warmed up.
