First Oil Change Timing

I am probably overthinking this one, new '19 Tundra, 4300 miles at present, have a trip coming up from central NC out to the Smokies next Tues-Sunday. If I don't get a change in before the trip I will definitely go over 5k miles, maybe up to 6k by the time I'm back home.

Get it done before trip with less than 5k miles?

OR

Wait until I get back with whatever is on the odometer? How will Toyota view this option?

Do it now. Won't hurt it one bit .Especially since you know you're going on a trip. I change mine every 5k regardless of the 10k extended drain interval. I'm OK spending a little extra having cleaner oil more often.

I’d do it before the trip but if you don’t have the time, then do it when you get back. You’re not going to hurt anything. Not sure what you mean by how Toyota will view the option? They won’t change your oil until 10k, unless you want to pay for it out of pocket. As for your scheduled maintenance, they don’t care about 1k. I’ve come in at 1k above/below, it’s all the same.

 

I'm pretty much in the same boat as OP (2019 CM, 4,.500 miles). My 5.7 is the non-FFV engine, and I just pulled the manual and it says first oil change is at 10K miles.

 

I just called the nearest Toyota Dealer service department - Advisor I spoke to said oil doesn't get changed at 5k, wait until 10k, but you can bring it in and we'll top off fluids, rotate tires and do multipoint inspection - wtf?

Sticker inside truck says 5k.....confused by dealer response, would like it changed since it's the first 5k on a new motor. Guess I'll try another one or go elsewhere.

 

FFV is 5k. I'd change it before I left.

 

Got an appointment with the other dealership in my area, should have just called them first but the other one is close to my office, oh well. No problems with the place I got an appointment, have a sticker that says 5,000 miles first change and that matches what it says in my Toyota Owners account as well.
