DIY'rs will know these motors flow oil like a tidal wave. In my case the drain pan things I use have a solid top with a drain hole. easy to move around without spilling once full. Negative is the oil splashes all over the front right wheel and then the ground. NOTHING in the front right area of my truck will ever rust.

So I got tired of that crap and today figured out a better way. I used one of those plastic storage bins we keep clothes and Christmas decorations in. wife won't be too happy but my front right brake is not soaked in motor oil for the first time.

The bin is huge and barely fit under the truck. actually kinda wedged in there but it fit.

I use a Walmart special mop bucket. It’s slightly oval so it catches the oil better. It also has a spout to make transfering the old oil easier. When it’s done draining, I just pour it into my oil container. Has worked pretty well so far. But I agree, it does come out fast and at an awkward angle.

Didn't know anyone that does their own changes still use standard drain plug bolts. First oil change on all my vehicles gets changed out to a valve.

I’ve been looking into the Fumoto valve. I know a lot of people run them without issue but there’s just something unsettling about the fact that it could be pushed open on accident. I know they make some type of lock for it but still. Removing/ installing a drain bolt and new washer only takes a minute and it’s piece of mind.

Most often they come with a plastic retaining clip that acts as a secondary "safety." I'm not running this part on the four Fumotos I have on various vehicles and have no worries. Fumoto valves have about 25 years of development on them. Without a doubt the worry related to these awesome devices would be operator error.

There's really no way for them to open without someone doing it by hand. I have them on all my vehicles even my motorcycles. If you're concerned about it opening by accident, you should also be concerned about your Schrader valves on your tires opening.

Tundras even have the skid plate covering it.

Have had the fumoto valve on for 40k miles without issue.

Ive had the same reservations for over a year. I’ve done enough research and read enough good things that I feel comfortable going with one.

Yea that’s awesome. I have the drain kit for the filter and it’s great. Is there an adapter for the Fumoto valve to use the drain tube? Anyone have a link for that?
If I get the valve I definitely want to use the drain tube as well.

Just go to your local hardware store with the valve and find the correct size tubing.

Seems like a nice option for you non-1st gen’rs. How long does it take to let ALL the oil out of that small orifice on the Fumoto? I go crazy waiting with just a standard plug.

Then you would likely snap with the Fumoto installed.

I don't know anyone outside these forums who does use one. In fact any time I've brought them up to people in person, no one has ever heard of them.

Not saying there's anything wrong with them, just saying I don't think they're all that common.

My skid plate does not cover the drain plug. If it did I'd give it more consideration.

I completely disagree with this statement. Do some research. Google is your friend. You will find they are much more common than you think.

And I'm telling you I have yet to find anyone who changes their own oil in person who uses one. I don't need to research anything, don't care. I'm just telling you plenty of people who change their own oil don't use them.

Ok, got it. Your small circle of people that don’t use one tell the story.
If you’re on the fence and base a decision on that then by all means stick with the plug. I don’t use one but I’m not naive enough to think that discussing with people I run into and change their own oil is a good marker of a product.

Go back and read my post. Google is your friend if you need some help with English.

ETA: I'll help you. Just because people don't use something, doesn't mean it's a bad product. Doesn't even mean they think it's a bad product. It means I was disputing that everyone who changes their own oil uses a Fumato. Plenty don't.

Last time I changed my oil I put my truck up on ramps and let it sit for over an hour. It was a much cleaner change than pulling the plug when the oil was hot. When oil is warm in these trucks it’s a mess. I’ve always heard to change oil when it warm/hot but I’m not sure it makes a difference so long as you let it drain completely.
