So Ive been looking through the threads and doing some google-fu and just want to make sure I have this right. What Id like to do is get some "muscle truck/car" style rims ( like some ralleys or some torque thrusts) and wrap it around a AT tire. I currently have 275/65/r18 on a stock suspension. Im not looking to get a lift or level, and Id like to keep the rim size 18 inches. I would also like to keep all mudflaps and dont want to deal with any trimming.

From what I read people say that 275/70/r18 will fit with no trimming or rubbing. Some say that they have fit 285s with no trimming. I would like a wider tire then I have now, so I was thinking 285/65/r18 if possible.

Converting tire size from mm to in gives me the following:
    275/65/r18= 32.1x10.8
    275/70/r18= 33.2 x 10.8
    285/65/r18=32.6x11.2
    285/70/r18=33.7x11.2

So from what I gather based on an online chart for the 275s I have a rim width range of 9.5-11 inches and for the 285s I have a range of 10-11.5 inches.

Am I missing anything or does this sound about right??

    Thanks

All of those tires you list will work fine on the stock 8 inch wide wheels. If using stock wheels, all of those sizes will fit a stock truck no issues.

So you can go as far down as 2.8 inches in width? Is there a plus/minus as far as tire width vs rim width when shopping for rims? And does the aspect ratio matter at all in regards to how wide your rim has to be?

Look up manufacturer specs for the exact tire you want to see the recommended wheel width as well as acceptable wheel width range per the manufacturer.

Example for Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires:
