    just small stuff so far
So, I picked up a 05 DC in Feb with a few miles on it. Currently at 370K. I noticed the fan clutch roar had been getting more frequent when getting into the gas pedal. I went to replace it and have been to the parts store now three different times. First one, too short. Second one, right depth and did the job the first and second day. It hit high 80's here today. And now the new one is roaring its ass off. So,,, the one I replaced had a thicker body to it, and the replacement(assured by the old guy behind the counter was the up to date) has a cross section about 60% thinner. Does this make a difference, Oh and I have a 2005 Double Cab V8 4.7 auto with factory tow package.

You just learned a valuable lesson with these trucks: AVOID AFTERMARKET.

Aisin is the original manufacturer of the fan clutch. Stick with Aisin brand from a reputable source.

That said, are you 100% certain the fan clutch is the problem and not the bearing on the fan clutch bracket itself? That bracket is also made by Aisin and I think I’ve seen cases of the bracket wearing out more times than the clutch.

Check for play in the fan. You shouldn’t be able to spin the fan by hand more than a full rotation with the engine hot, throwing the fan blade by hand, a good clutch will not allow the fan to spin freely.
