Hopped out of the truck and noticed this on the leading edge of the bed...

What you're looking at is an area with no white paint. It appears to be primer or bare steel. There is a layer of clear coat over it, as it is glassy smooth as the rest of the paint. Going to take it to the dealer at the 5k service and see what they can do about it. Very strange paint mistake.

Definitely get it to the dealer to correct. That will be the first place to start peeling, if you keep your truck long enough.

Just wanted to update the thread in case anyone has a similar issue.

Took it to the dealership yesterday and the service advisor and manager said, "Yep that definitely isn't right." My paperwork noted, "Manufacturer paint defect."

They said the case is off to Toyota Corporate that handles these kinds of things and should be back to me in a few days.

AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Ya I have a defect in my glass windshield. You can’t see it from inside out but it’s a cluster of small spots inside the glass on the center to passenger side. I can have the windshield replaced but I really don’t want to take apart the factory seal. Since I’m on the road a lot it’s only a matter of time before I get a rock chip.

That happened on my 09 Cremax
That I no longer have. Odd Little pencil eraser sized spot on the bed all by itself near the edge of the bed panel by a wheel well that appeared to be bare steel With clear coat over it. Looked like maybe it had something to do with how the panel was braced or hung or suspended in the paint booth.

i bought the truck and immediately left town in it for several months before noticing. I initially was going to take it in when I got back but ended up touching it up and forgetting about it for a bit. Not too long after the wife smashed it and that whole side got repainted anyway.

They'll have it repainted. Bed will have to be removed for a proper job

I've considered this, and to be honest I don't really want the bed removed. But it is what it is I suppose.

If they offered a lifetime paint warranty I'd take it over the repaint.

Removing the bed isn't really a huge deal. Bodyshop removed my bed when repainting side to fix a small scratch, they said they have to do clear coat around the corner of the bed to avoid it peeling later on.

I think it's just a few bolts from the top to remove it and I don't think much can go wrong.

That's good to hear, thanks for the peace of mind!
