I recently purchased a 2005 double cab Tundra. It is missing both keyless remote FOB's. I know it came with keyless remotes because I have the original window sticker. I was told by a local locksmith that he could not program a new FOB until I had a Toyota dealer clear the memory for the locks because it can only have a maximum of three FOB's programmed and mine was full already. Is this correct or should I find another locksmith. This was an ACE Hardware locksmith and I was using their FOB.

    Thanks

Welcome aboard! I don't have an exact answer on whether only a Toyota dealer can clear the memory but I have a feeling whoever told you that might be giving you the run around.

This thread has tons of good information on the keyless entry system. You should be able to re-program it yourself: https://www.tundras.com/threads/key-fob-replacement-2002-tundra.55779/

    Locksmith is full of shit.

Here's a link to the instructions for the RS3200 system that should be in your truck (and the RS3000, look at the file name to grab the right one): https://www.tundras.com/threads/need-help-disabling-automatic-door-locks.33158/#post-1931311

There's a specific process in there to clear all previously programmed fobs from the system. Every car I've owned with keyless entry that lets you add remotes without attaching a computer or box to the car has this feature.

You'd learn more using the search feature here than you will from people trying to sell you something. It literally says it right here in the fucking manual. Fuck those guys!

Shifty, thanks for the info. Can you also recommend an aftermarket FOB that will work with my system? I didn't purchase the FOB from the locksmith.

    Thanks

I can't recommend aftermarket. Your '05 experience should be same as my '06.

I got my last two pretty cheap. Overpaid for the 1st one on fleaBay, $38, but it was brand freaking new. The latter two were $19.99 and $20, one from fleaBay and one from a local salvage yard. With the salvage yard, I asked if they had one from an '04- '06 Tundra. They did.

on fleaBay, I searched based on the FCCID, this was the search term I used: BAB237131-056 OEM KEY FOB

If you don't include the OEM you get hammered with BS chinesium garbage. You'll still get some while using it, but it melts out a lot.

Maybe if you're just lazy and want "anything", you'll get lucky with one of these chinesium generics, although the cheaper one looks like it has a weak ass key ring provision.

I can't recommend enough to call a major salvage yard near you if you have a Pull-a-Part, Copart or similar near you.
