Just picked up a '14 Crewmax and was planning to install the Toyota IBC until I found out they aren't compatible. I am wanting to get ahold of a factory controller, working or not, to disassemble and hopefully tie into an aftermarket unit if anyone has an idea where to find such a thing? I know there have been issues with the IBC's but that wouldn't have any effect on my plan as I would really only be using it as a faceplate

Why not just buy the Tekonsha kit that has the dash cover and harness all in one?

Is that the one with the esp truck dash panel and the prodigy controller stuck out of it or something else?

I picked up an integrated controller yesterday and powered it up, hooked into the trucks CAN line and had lots of interesting lights on. Lol. Have it disassembled now, pulled the board and sorted out the wiring from the face so I can hopefully tie it into an aftermarket controller. Have a basic Hopkins controller coming to disassemble and try - they just have up/down buttons, the slide, and an led for the output indicator.

Here is the Toyota integrated brake control wired into a basic Hopkins trailer brake control. Took a bit of working but think it's a good compromise

Got it installed/hooked up today and all seems well. Hooked it up to my trailer and made sure I could hear the brake magnets humming. Next up is to install the B&W gooseneck hitch..

Im ignorant to this but curious what the advantage is to using that brake controller over the OEM one?

The '14s (and possibly some of the '15s) don't have the wiring or programming/module to support the oem brake controller. I always like the stock look and with the physical fitment of the oem being there this was my solution. Looks original (except for the added led) and works with my 2014. I thought it might be helpful to people with newer models that have problems with their integrated brake control and want another avenue as well

this is quite clever. hopefully its working as intended. i assume you're not using any of the "guts" of the toyota IBC and just using the buttons/slide lever. taking this one step further...you could possibly take the guts from the hopkins controller and put them inside the "factory" one.

Just hooked up one of my trailers after installing the gooseneck hitch over the weekend, I'll give it a try tomorrow and see how it all works out.

You're right, all of the original IBC circuitry has been removed. I'm sure it could all be consolidated into the factory unit, but by the time I had my 'simple' project sorted out I was running out of patience!! Had to remove all of the tiny little resistors on the button circuit board, cut a few of the copper tracks, and replace the slide lever resistor with one that fit the panel but matched the Hopkins control..
