Today something was bothering me like no other, and this is the perfect place to vent since Tundra Trucks only have owner problems, not usually mechanical ones....

So I seen a post on FB about a friends daughter saying "Chris Ledoux sucks" and how disappointed he was in her. Then all his adult friends and family jumped on the bandwagon of shaming her on this post. She just said this to her parents, not on social media. This guy is the one that brought it into social media.

I was the only one that said, "just an opinion" and holy hell. To be honest, I knew nothing of Chris Ledoux or that he died in 05, in WY, and I guess he was a singer/songwriter/rodeo star. I was wondering if I should make a shrine dedicated to this man and worship it everyday.

Then this guy started calling his 17 year old daughter on FB a idiot.

I can only imagine what a teenage daughter or two will be like. Hell, a 5 and 8 year old kids can make any parent lose it. I get it, but......

I often wonder if parents realize the damaging effect of treating your offspring in this manner? Now day's, social media is huge, and can have lasting effect in more than one way.

    -future employment
    -the posters future employment
    -damaged relationship effects

When I see on social media parents doing stupid shit like shooting a laptop, slapping your kid around...you know, we have all seen it.

Personally, I will never do that to my kids on FB or whatever the new thing is when they come to age. Fathers are supposed to lift their daughters up, be an example of what to look for in a man. What kind of example is calling your own offspring that they are an idiot? To me, this says you do a really shitty job as a parent, can't control your temper, and drop down to a 17 year olds level instead of being an example, it is ok to talk to a woman like that...expect it, and last but not least, her opinion is not wanted or valued.

I have just thought of deleting this guy. I haven't seen or talked to him in years, and we live in the same city. This is not the first time something like this has happened either.

Social media is a 2 head monster, I see the benefits of keeping up with friends and family but theres also the ugly side of people using it for their sole means of communication and living on it.

Im not on FB, could give 2 shits less about keeping up with everybody, if I'm important in their life won't they call me or email me? Hell I even learned to text.

If your friends with someone on FB and they are bothering you or don't agree with their values, delete them, who cares FB isn't real life.

I tried FB about 8 years ago. Dumped it after about 3 months. I can't care less about it. Seems like a good place for stupidity to blossom and ignorance to find a place to get a platform. I have not seen anything to make me interested in trying again. Negatives outweigh positives by a big margin.
Most people don't know the difference between a friend and an acquaintance. If you ever have 3 real friends in your lifetime you're fortunate.

Yep, that is how I got that number.

I will refuse to delete someone I served with, so that brings me back up to the 60's

I'm sorry, but I see zero benefit to being a part of Facebook and the similar sites. Everyone's dirty laundry is out there and it's getting ridiculous. If I want to keep up with someone, I'll call them. If they want to keep up with me, they can call me. Hell, we can even do it the old fashioned way and send a text message.

Ive been off Facebook for a couple years now and haven't looked back.

I stay out of FB. This forum is as close to social media as I will get. And with all things internet, it's very easy to degrade and talk shit when you don't have to do face to face, which is why some adults jumped on this girl. I tell my wife to avoid posting ANY opinions on FB; it's a losing proposition no matter what side of the issue you're on.

i think Chris was addressing the parenting flaw and everyone instead focused on the platform... I dont think it matters what social platform the message was delivered. As a parent, belittling your teenage child like that can have some serious consequences. hopefully his daughter is able to see past her idiotic family and has a good head on her shoulders....

Won't let my kids on it. If I don't have it, they are not going to have it. No Facebook, instagram, twitter or Snapchat. I use tumblr but won't let them on that either.

    This.

Most kids are smart enough to make a FB page under an alias. My FB page is not my full name, but my nickname. Easy to create and use at friends houses or on private mode on another device. I would rather monitor what my kids are doing and associate with.

In the situation I'm talking about, it is the parent being sophomoric and the teen daughter acting like an adult.

I'm just going to off monitor him/ most likely delete. Personally, if you are on my FB page, I think highly of you. My own brother, his fiancé, and all the family members on my wife's side but one niece are not on my page...if that says anything.

No I just block it from their phones. Already had one case of cyber bullying going on. Rather them focus on being kids than keeping up with the Kardashians.

Yeah it's disturbing to see, in this over populated world of ours, how many unfit parents there are. If any parent gets to the point they're calling their own kid an idiot, they need to realize they created and molded that idiot. Take responsibility and if it needs fixing, fix it. I guarantee publicly shaming a child will not make it better.
