The real question is how do I get easy break in miles on the front diff? Just put it in 4Hi as often as I can on straight roads? I don’t have miles of dirt roads to drive on or anything to rack up miles.

I am considering having mine polished as well for the simple reason of break-in. It wouldn't be hard for me to get 500 miles on them quickly, but it would be hard for me to do that without pulling a trailer or putting it under a fairly heavy load.

I’ll just have to put it on Jack stands in the garage lol.

Same. I don’t daily drive it, and when I put more miles on in one trip it’s usually pulling a trailer.

Has anyone used the mini install kit and reused the bearings?

I'll be looking at the mini for the fronts. It'll be based on my bearing inspection. I may pre-order or Amazon some rear bearings in case. So can return if not needed.

That’s what I would do if I did the work myself. My diffs are sorta low mileage and taken care of. But any shop near me wants new bearings and compete kit to do the swap.

For the price I couldn’t say no, this site sure causes a lot of problems! I figure I already have low mileage front differential sitting on the shelf so why not. Hopefully I can get away with the basic install kit on that diff.

I'm hoping to start the first week of December. Whenever that rear lsd shows up. Is it the day after turkey day yet?

So I got a killer deal on Timken bearings for the rear. No shims. I see that the Toyota Yukon and skf kits have pinion and diff shims labeled sk13, sk23, sk44, sk23 etc. In my search they state they are for Dana 44 and GM. Same part for Toyota 10.5 and front 9 ifs?
I have an idea of what individual Toyota shims to order but am curious.

I have 135k on my 2007, it was a stolen vehicle recovery that spent its first 5 years in the police yard and dealership manager transportation. I'm planning on using the mini kit and bearings from my front diff. I do have a backup plan if they don't pass the visual inspection.

Got the bearing puller. Thing is massive. I chose the sunex 5/8-8 inch one over the otc-1130. It was $100 shipped from ebay.
All bearings/seals will be here on the 26th. Will only be waiting for the speedmaster...

For the price, definitely Toyota. They are very proud of that little tube. It even came with a church key like you’d use to open up canned meat/fish, to get every drop out

Gearinstalls.com (Zuk) recommended this FIPG. 4+ years later no leaks, and I am definitely that guy who could screw it up.

Well crap, gears came in but the rear ring gear has some minor damage. The styrofoam insert and ring gear was upside down in the box so it was subject to impact. Thinking I should probably return this one and get a different one, any thoughts from the pros? Not sure if the dings will cause any problems with wear or not.
