Extended Warranty

Good to know. Does this apply for vehicles purchased in Canada?

 

Well decided to kick the can down the road on the warranty. Here is my thinking:

If we wait 3 years to buy it we can invest the $4600 and get probably close to $800 in interest. The Toyota penalty to wait until the last month is $450 in Canada. So all I miss out on is the 3 oil changes and since I do my own with Mobil 1 and a Toyota oil filter that "free" maintenance is worth about $200 total. So, no harm in waiting to buy the warranty and in 3 years there will be much more data on reliability. As well, I’ll have a better idea on the mileage I’ll put on.

 

what do you mean by “Toyota penalty”?

in Canada you have,to buy the extended warranty within 31 days.

I,wrestle with extended warranty. On one hand, Toyota…. On the other hand….. engine failures.

I also factor in not paying for CAA if I buy warranty. So 125 a year x 7 so the warranty is “x” amount minus 875.

I’m only buying an extra 2 years since I’m really only concerned about transmission and engine.

 

This Canadian dealer page says if you buy within the 31 days of purchasing the car you get the maintenance and avoid the surcharge. It is actually $400 if you wait until the last minute before the 3 year 60k warranty expires.

It looks like the 31 day deadline is for a 4 year plan only. Also, the vehicle comes with 36 months of roadside assistance.

I have no use for CAA since I have coverage with other services and do my own oil changes and maintenance.

 

New to this forum and waiting on a Tundra. Is it possible to get the info for Jerry on the extended warrenty?

Thanks for sharing this. I wasn’t aware and didn’t even look into the cost difference if we had waited. However, what is to say that the price of the same warranty today does not increase significantly over the next 3 years?

 

I’ll send an email to Toyota Canada. I read it as the extended warranty must be purchased within 31 days to be eligible.

M Y point with caa was that since “caa” is included with ecp you could deduct the caa cost over 7 years from the ecp cost.

I'm interested in this too. Tundra coming in a few weeks and wanted to figure out if I could get a deal on warranty or if I could wait till end of the base warranty

so,I’ve read through some stuff (I’m just a guy on the internet) and it does seem like you can buy the warranty up until the factory warranty expires. The 31 day thing is if you want the “free” oil changes.

I think I also read you have to purchase the lower tier ECP plans within 31 days but they are basically useless.

I’d like to defer the ECP for 5 years if I can. By then we’d have even more data on the engine failures, etc

 

Two dealers confirmed for me today that I can wait until just before the 3yr-60,000 kms warranty runs out. They said the penalty is about $150-200 for waiting, and of course no free maintenance.

Interesting. I read 5 years, or 100k. But it’s good to know we can wait 3 years.
