I'm hoping to pull the trigger on a 2022 CrewMax OR with roughly 65,000 KM (Canada) on it in a private sale, which means it's no longer covered under the comprehensive/ basic 3-year/ 60,000 KM factory warranty but has roughly 31 months left on the power train. I know there are a lot of unknowns surrounding the 3rd Gen right now and I was hoping to try and give myself some peace of mind with an extended warranty. However, options are limited.

I called around a number of dealerships in my area, and only one offered Toyota's extended warranty (the rest were all 3rd party, which is a no-go for me). The catch is they can only offer the 3-year/ 60,000 KM comprehensive, which would be $2,700 + tax CAD. It would give me another 5 months of coverage on the powertrain, but not sure if that's worth the cost.

Outside of the cracking seat panel, what are some common warranty items that folks have seen that are covered under comprehensive?

That's ridiculously expensive for only 5 months of coverage. Hard pass for me.

Also, FYI, this truck is likely under a safety recall for a defective engine. It's a pretty ugly situation, and might be the reason the current owner is selling it.

    Do your research wisely.

That's my thoughts, too; with that being said, it does add the "bumper-to-bumper" warranty for the 36 months, but it's the powertrain that I am mainly looking to have covered. I figured it was worth a question, though, in case there were common issues covered by the comprehensive that might crop up in the next 36 months to justify the hefty price tag. The other option is roll the dice, hope for the best, and stash the $2,700 for potential future issues/ mods.

I am aware of the engine recall and have gone down the wormhole and flip-flopped many times. I'm trying to look at it as a positive that I'll get a discounted price on a Tundra that will eventually have a brand new engine/ turbos/ etc.

Are you sure that warranty starts when the factory bumper to bumper runs out? Usually they start at the time of in service.

I would find one that is still covered by the factory bumper to bumper and buy a 10 year plan through Toyota. I do know options are more limited and it’s more expensive in Canada though.
