    Hey y’all,

My 2008 5.7 Tundra won’t crank & start (I get nothing at all). Battery is good, and I just had the alternator replaced within the past year or so. I’m getting error cods p0335 p0340 p0345 p0365 p0390. Truck will jump start right away and run fine but as soon as I turn it off it won’t start back up unless jumped.

Any ideas what I can do before I take it to the shop?

    Thanks,
    Stephen

Check your grounds, check fuses... may seem like an electrical fault may be the issue... May be a starter issue... or may be an ECM issue, but someone with more electrical knowledge may be of help... Starter is a bitch though...

Did you test the battery with a multimeter?

Test to see what your new alternator is putting out.

I’m sorry but all signs point to a bad battery if it starts and runs fine with a jump start I would put a fresh battery in it and test the alternator for charging even if you don’t want to buy one Then test it with a friends battery just make sure it’s a top post doesn’t matter how many CCA it’s just for testing purposes and if it starts up and runs fine then buy a new battery and don’t forget that Toyota’s need to relearn wen you have a dead battery so make sure all accessories are off and let the truck idle for a good 10-15 min so it can relearn

I did test battery. 12.6v with engine off, 13.6v while running.

Definitely seems to be a connection/wiring/electrical issue. Driving to work this morning all the gauges and the screen cut out on me randomly a couple times (though truck continued to drive fine) and the lights were blinking a little as was the clock and some other things. I've cleaned the battery terminals well and the connection there is tight. Might just have to give in and take it to a shop to check things out.

Lights cutting out is low voltage, 13.6 is garbage for a fairly new alternator, I would put a full load on it and see what it does. Take your alternator off and get it tested at least and your battery. If it jump starts fine but won’t start on it’s own that’s not a truck electrical problem that’s a initial voltage problem. The next time it won’t start on its own check what the voltage is before you jump it.

You don't have to remove the alternator to get it tested, take it to an Oreilly, pep boys, or a service station to get the alternator tested, I don't think autozone does it, but I may be wrong. It may sound like a battery problem, I've stalled out while the truck is running and the alternator is fine, so far 220k and still going, batteries are a different story... My SC400 just killed a 3 month old battery, took it in to get tested and its not holding a charge, so I've swapped it out...

I get a half mile from Autozone and the truck completely stalls out. Able to jump it and get to autozone. Battery was still under warranty so had it replaced and it started right up. Hopefully that’s all it was! $0 potential fix!
    Thanks for everyone’s advice!

Hopefully that will be your answer, as summer goes full blast I expect a surge in stalling and batteries dying... I went through 9 batteries in 6 months at one point and time including 3 factory direct replacements, and 3 Optimas, 2 red and 1 yellow top...
