    Good day all,
I have no 5th or 6th speeds, 4lo flashing, and anti skid lit up too. Autozone scan read P0983. This says shift solenoid D or S4.
So I dropped the trani pan and found that solenoid 35240 no. 3 has an open circuit/no continuity (needs replacement). I tested the solenoid next to it and It had continuity. I didn’t check for ohms. My question is that there are 5 solenoids that begin with same part number the 35240-xxxxx, but have the last part of part number are different. Some have a different orientation on the mounting bracket. Does anyone know if replacing no. 3 will fix my above issue? Or better yet what function does solenoid no.3 do?
    Thank you
    Bob

Hey Bob, did you ever get this figured out?
I've seen S4 as the solenoid that gets you 5th and 6th gear back, and you must have seen the same video by Gary Ferraro that I did about testing ohms.

I’m taking mine in this AM for this issue (P0983 Shift Solenoid D Control Circuit High Valve S4).

Any ideas what this will cost me?

I can't say how much it will cost you, but here's what I know, if it is indeed the shift solenoid:

The after market part from a regular Midwest supply place was about $80. Some of the after market parts were about $200 but I only needed the one.
If the bolts holding the transmission oil pan had all come out the easy 8 out of 12 did, I could have done the whole thing in 3 hours. Instead I spent about 30 hours drilling and tapping the 4 out of 12 bolts that the heads snapped off. It's possible the mechanic will suggest replacing the whole transmission. Which of they were to spend 30 hours drilling and tapping bolts would make sense.

    Good luck.
