    Good Morning,

I am writing to address a misunderstanding regarding my position on the Toyota Safety Recall 24TA07. I noticed on the customer copy of the invoice you provided me that it states, “Customer Declined Recall. Customer to sign file copy when returning on next service visit.” This does not accurately reflect my stance.

To clarify, I am not declining the recall remedy. Instead, I am deferring the repair to a later date when I have complete confidence in the remedy and its implementation. As a responsible vehicle owner, I fully intend to address this recall in the future.

Please update the records for my vehicle to reflect this clarification. If you need further information or would like to discuss this matter, feel free to reach out.

Please let me know that you received this email.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Good Morning Sir,

I do unfortunately have to put on the repair order that you were offered the safety recall and that you declined it at this time. It does not mean that it voids out the safety recall, but every time that you do come in, I will have to put the same notes until you are ready to have the parts ordered and the recall completed. It is very important that it is done this way since it is a safety issue. Please give me a call if you have any questions.

Or run it until it implodes, then do the recall. Even better, unless it causes a major inconvenience.

Don’t wait too long, I’ll bet the full long block replacement eventually goes away. And then they just do short block fixes.

Clearly their response is for liability purposes. They have offered the repair, you are refusing it at this time, they are documenting this. If the engine goes and such incident causes an accident involving death or damage to yourself or others, you are the one who chose to not repair your truck when it was offered. Does this put the liability on you? Unsure…I suppose it depends on the state and liability laws. It definitely is a tactic to lower their liability. This entire recall is a CYA situation. If it was anything other than this, the hybrid owners would be receiving long blocks as well.

With that, I have not received my phone call for my October 2022 and have to decide what I will do when this occurs. I just turned 50k yesterday and have loved every mile! I would like to hit 100k before I have the new engine installed. We shall see.

Agree with Lynch256. While I understand Cajun Tim point of view. This is like standing in a swamp surrounded by alligators and telling the rescuer they don't seem to be bothering me at this time I'll just sit here for now. Then blaming the rescuer if you get bitten.

Is there a question here that your looking for an answer/opinion for? As others have said, you're obviously bringing your truck in for some other service, they are advising you of the recall and you are waiting to have it done at a later date. Think of it this way, there is an airbag recall, you bring your truck in for an oil change, they run the VIN as always and see the airbag recall hasn't been done. They advise you that you need to have the recall done and you say that you don't have time and will do it at a later date. You bet Toyota is going to put on the record that you denied the recall. You leave, crash and your airbag malfunctions and you get hurt. I'm no lawyer but I think Toyota has a strong argument that if you had the recall done your airbag would have worked correctly and you wouldn't have gotten hurt.

I was considering the same plan, but changed my mind after I talked to a mechanic at one of the dealerships. My engine was ordered a week ago. Seems like a shame but at nearly 58k it’s running great. I never did do the spark plugs at 40k either. Anyway, the mechanic convinced me it was a matter of when, not if. Just figured to get it done ahead of camping season.

Funny enough, I had the complete opposite experience when I got my fuel line recall done last week. Asked the service advisor 1) how many they’ve done and 2) if he’d recommend I get it done sooner rather than later. I’m in the first wave, so I can theoretically get it done whenever. He said they had only done 4 which I think is probably the reason he told me to drive the shit out of it until it blows up. Same underlying tone but different recommendation. I’m gonna wait until December and then reevaluate if I want to get it done or not (engine debris willing). 54k on the odometer and no issues so far!

I called around to a few dealers and one of them told me the same advice as you got. The other 2 were on the opposite side of the spectrum. I am secretly second guessing myself sometimes but the cats of the bag for me. I would salute someone taking one to 150 or 200k and then getting an engine swap!

I was totally ready to have him order an engine that day so I totally get you. Hope both of our new engines are even better than the first!
