Is anyone using an engine oil additive with 3rd gen and what results have they seen? Engine oils are required to meet an api spec but additives are not. I am using Penzoil platinum now and will continue using without an additive.

You should have no need to add anything to the oil on any modern vehicle, much less a new truck. Just change the oil every 5k miles.

I like Ceratec. I’ve not used it on this engine. I’ve used it in my 5.0. Good stuff.

I've read about Chads be gone. Made specifically for the Gen III.

I have it on good authority that Chad's B Gone is just repackaged STP. I recommend 2 cans per oil change and one in the gas tank at every fill up.

Anyone with the Gen 3 engine "iChad-Max" should be adding two cans of Rislone to their oil.

Just curious - How do we know its 'tested and approved'? (meaning empirical evidence)

Anybody used Tufoil? I used it in my '99 4Runner and it never used a drop of oil in 250k miles. Also used it in my DD '03 Corolla and after 150k miles it was still getting over 40 mpg at over 75 mph, never using any oil in it either! Patented microscopic teflon particles that smooth

I used an oil additive once long ago. Everyone was talking about this wonderful additive called Slick 50. Better mileage, longer engine life, and many other claims. I had a 1970 383 V8 Dodge pickup and wanted to make sure it was taken care of. Regular oil changes, regular air filter changes, and weekly checks on anything that might be needed. The engine shut down about a week after the Slick 50 treatment. Oil seeped a little around the valve seals, but not enough to warrant a valve job. Compression was around 120psi on all eight cylinders. When the engine quit, most tested around 40psi. Copper and sodium were two of the primary components of Slick 50 after PTFE. The sodium acted as an impurity and welded the copper to the valve faces and seals. I heard other horror stories soon afterwards. Oil pumps failing, piston rings stuck, and others. An overhaul, that I could barely afford at the time, put the old Dodge back on the road. I haven't used an oil additive since, and never will. A good quality oil, and regular oil and oil filter changes, should be all that's necessary. I feel that if it actually improved oil, the oil manufacturers would put it in every quart and use that as an advertised improvement. Of course, Quaker State did that with Slick 50. A move that led to a class action suit that Quaker State lost. Quaker State lost both cash and market share. The others are probably afraid that hawking snake oil will do the same for them.

I too used that silly slick on a '79 pontiac 305ci a couple of times - caused no issues but not sure if it helped - yet the engine kept running and running. I sold it at 196k - a friend drove it another 40k then sold it. Said it still caught a chirp shifting into 2nd and 3rd (auto).

I used to use Avblend in the old Cessna. At that time it was the only FAA approved oil additive for piston engine aircraft. Which means it was proven to do no harm. Did it do any good? Who knows. At least I got a cool sticker for my toolbox.

I will say it sure did reduce friction in a Honda CB 350 four I owned. I added 4 oz to the oil and took it for a good ride and when I returned the idle was at 1600 RPM instead of the normal 1000. Since these old Hondas were carburatored it proved the internal friction was reduced.

Do I put Avblend in my Tundra? HELL NO.
