Whatever this forum told me to do
How can I monitor timing advance with a scanguage 2? the IGN gauge is weird - how to interpret?

I read the Harrop document - it said the 5.7 was frequently hitting the knock sensor with 87 oct. and when they put 93 oct in the knock sensor was minimal. even when the S/C (7psi) was added the knock sensor was minimal.

I am wanting to see that in my own ride. I have yet to get the S/C. still waiting for ECU crack.

just wanting to see if I can see the timing changes when I run higher octane.

I don't think you can monitor that. The retarding of the timing with higher octane is caused from the higher combustion point, thus taking "more time" to fire it. It is minimal and really comes down to the quality of fuel. I always use 93 octane, but I always make sure I'm listening for pre-detonation. You never put the pedal down if you hear a ping... I don't think a gauge is able to discern the fuel octane's timing characteristics. I could be wrong, but I don't know if any
