So my timing chain tensioner system was replaced by my mechanic and now upon start up he says I have a rod knocking! Says engine needs replacing! Says they both went out at the same time! I change oil religiously and use Mobil 1! I’m the 2nd owner and I baby my girl! Thoughts? Btw not much confidence in the mechanic! 08 Texas Edition 5.7 210k miles

Sounds like he didn’t time it right and potentially bent the valves causing the valves to make noise due to contact with the pistons.

or he let the cams slip and bent valves. Engines don’t usually start knocking randomly after a repair like this is done. Mistakes are to blame 90% of the time

this is assuming he removed the chains to do the tensioners by the cams too. Or he resealed the cover with too much sealant and plugged oil galleys

I have no idea what your mechanic did. Have a strong believe that he has caused your problem and is trying to cover his a.
Odds are you could never prove it.
There’s virtually no chance you had coincidental simultaneous failures.
Sorry for the position you are in.
Obviously, you need to disregard his recommendations and get as far from him as you can. Get evaluations from several different independent shops and maybe one from a dealership. G’luck
