I took the overhead display off last night to wire both of the map lights together.
I noticed the LCD display where the Outside temp is displayed, I could see a MPG section on the right hand side of the display. Is there a way to use it? or Add the funtion.

I wonder what it takes to make that work.

I'm not an electrician, nor do I play one over the internet, but we gotta make this happen. It could be as easy as plug and play. I seem to remember that GM would run the same wire loom regardless of the interior package ordered, more efficient for the assembly line. You could swap in a new instrument cluster with additional readouts like trans and oil temp, or swap in heated seats since the plug was already in the floor.

Fun with wires! Hows the jumper mod working? Pretty cool just tapping one instead of two lights to activate both?

In to see how this mpg thing works.

I'm thinking most of the wires should already be installed in the harness somewhere.

It may be in the OHC itself if the wiring is already there.

I think you're right. Searching parts for cross reference it appears the Sequoia and Tundra spec different readout modules.

    Yep,
I I need to hit a junk yard and find this part and look at the wire harness and see if it looks like mine.

Maybe all I need is a different overhead module? And it's plug and play?
Some how I think there will be more then just plugging in a new Module.

There is a guy here at work with a Sequoia close to the same year as my truck. I'm going to ask him if it has this MPG display.

Even if you get it to work, won't you need the outside temp sensor too?

There is a (mode) button. So I think i'll be able to switch between temp and mpg. not 100% sure

Ok. But does your truck have the outside sensor needed to actually read the temp and then transmit it to the screen? The newer Tundra's have this in the grill somewhere.

I'm an idiot. It would help if I read the title correctly. I thought you were trying to get the temp to display.

Miles to empty would be nice to have but the mpg reading is going to be way off since you and I have bigger than stock tires.

My wifes 02 Sequoia has miles to empty as well as MPG. I always thought it was weird that my 05 Tundra didn't have those features.

Darkness, are you saying you can see a mpg and miles to empty readout from a scangauge in your Tundra? If so, I think that another question is answered as there was concern the Sequoia module was perhaps receiving information from the ECM that was not being sent by the Tundra ECM, thus necessitating two unique module designs. If that data is being sent by the Tundra ECM, then the lack of module interchangeability may just be due to shape or size. We really need to see the module plug and socket from a Tundra vs Sequoia to gain a better understanding.

Yes, but, I believe it may be dependent on a reset when the gas tank is refilled. At least for the scangauge I'm pretty sure that's how it works, it is tracking fuel usage and miles covered and deducting that from gallons available.
