With my previous vehicles I would always occasionally test out the emergency brake. I know the park brake can be set to auto engage, however I’ve chosen to have that mode off. At a low speed I engaged the switch for a half second on my 2023 SR5 and it immediately locked up the brakes. Don’t see anything in the manual about using this brake while moving.

is there any way to use “emergency” braking without locking up the wheels?

I think that is now referred to the “parking brake” to be used when stopped only. In the past we referred to it as the emergency brake. I think there is very little brake material on the brake shoes, it’s just to take all the tension off the transmission when parked.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah you're confusing the emergency breaking safety system with a parking brake. Those two things are not the same. Highly suggest you read your owners manual on the emergency braking. Do not use your parking brake while moving unless you have no other choice.

I guess an independent brake application system for emergency use by the driver is a thing of the past, for new Tundras. There is nothing I could find in the tundra 2023 manual that suggests, recommends, or instructs you to use emergency braking. I think that is an omission. Maybe others don’t. As teab has pointed out, there is emergency braking, but the system is automatic, no input from the driver required.
And yes you can engage the park brake while moving, I tried, and that's what prompted my inquiry.
    Good info.

There is a very short comment in the manual. Section 4-2 (pages 212 & 212 in my manual) :

Pull and hold the parking brake switch if an emergency occurs and it is necessary to operate the parking brake while driving.
Seems like they could have added more info about what to expect if you do that. The wife's 2016 CX5 is the same way. Definitely takes getting used to not having an old fashioned e-brake. I've been meaning to test it like you did so thanks for confirming what I thought would happen.

Good find DRP. I missed that when I scoured through the 600+ page manual

Doublethebass, I’m note sure what wheels locked up. The vehicle just stopped suddenly, from a very low speed.
