    Hi,
    I have a gas 2022 tundra sr5.
When I scroll around on the window I see eco for gas in green. Some one posted he got better gas mileage in normal mode for gas however I don't see how to switch between eco and normal mode, RE: fuel.
    Thanks,
    ~DjK

    Hi DjK,
Big knob on the center console next to the 4x4 settings. You can turn that knob to set either Normal, Sport or Eco modes. I'm pretty sure all it does is change shift points.

Eco mode seems to lower the throttle response. I hated it when I tried it. Actually got better mileage in normal mode myself.

Also sport mode is fun. Tow+ ( tow mode and sport mode together) is even better.

Same here. Eco makes the truck feel sluggish and it seems to make the trans hunt for the correct gear more. I also get better mileage in Normal mode.

Tow + Haul Ass mode is bit too aggressive for me for every day driving, but it's fun for interstate on ramps, or blowing little ricers off the line at stop lights. LOL.

I leave mine in normal. No discernable difference in my MPG, with a more responsive go pedal.

Mine gets better mileage on off mode. I don't see a different in mine in all three modes.

For me, a steady 55-60 mph is the sweet spot at around 22-23 MPG. Anything faster, that requires the boost to kick in occasionally, drops the MPG significantly. Throw in some steep inclines, headwinds, or variable traffic speeds and 17-18 is pretty common.

I've traveled cross country in mine 4 times. The overall best MPG I've got was 17.2, but that included food and fuel stops, variable weather and traffic conditions, wife and 2 large dogs, and a full bed of vacation stuff. Still significantly better than my 2015 Tundra. And the range of the 32 gal fuel tank is an extra bonus on those long roadtrips.

Eco mode is good if you want to use the electric function more around town and in stop and go. Other than that, I haven’t seen any other benefit

Eco mode seems to make it lug particularly if there are any hills. I've done a few simple tests. Eco gets worse MPG than Normal. Sport can be better when I'm in hilly areas. Eco might be better on a flat road that is stop and go, stop signs or stop lights. For anything else, Eco seems to be worse MPG.

What I'm curious about is what does the "Drive Mode" button do? When I push it, it does nothing, light is always lit.

You need to turn the knob, that will adjust to the different modes via a notification on your dash.

That I understand, I'm trying to figure out what the purpose of the button is, light is always on and nothing happens when I push the button.

Push the tow/haul button and that will no longer be lit. It’s the default

    The formula for wind resistance, also known as drag force, is: F_d = (1/2) * ρ * v^2 * C_d * A

The V (in the formula ft/s vs mph) in there is velocity and its squared when calculating drag force so even though it just seems like a a couple miles per different it makes a bigger difference than you think considering drag....that 2mph difference comes out to about a 6% increase in drag force. As speed doubles the force quadruples.

Probably about the tipping point of being in boost sometimes and out of boost most the time. I've seen similar results 65mph and get 20+mpg and go 75mph and get about 18mpg. Towing my little camper/cargo trailer/toy hauler its about 14mpg vs 11mpg.

Resistance… be it road and rolling, as in larger contact patch (bigger tires). Headwind, (air blowing against you) and air resistance (being the faster you go the more resistance you get). All will affect your mileage dramatically. Then you have a lifted above stock height truck, maybe with the lower air dam removed causing more underbody turbulence and aggressive off road tires..
It is a large truck after all, I knew before I bought it that mileage wasn’t my top priority.

Does the eco/normal/sport mode have to do with fueling, or shift points?

I drove a random 25 miles in economy and regular mode. I found the mileage to be better in regular mode. I also found that economy mode made the truck feel sluggish. Living in New Hampshire, I found that economy mode was actually beneficial to use in snowstorms- it took a bit of the “edge” off. Past that? Meh.

I have also been playing with the different drive modes, I seem to get the best mileage and performance in Sport Mode. All the different modes do is tell the transmission what RPM to shift at. That's why ECO mode feels so sluggish, it shifts at such a low RPM, at least that's been my experience.

Sport mode is MY default, daily driving setting. I wish I could make it the truck's default.
Tow or Tow+ is if I need(?) to have fun or show off. Or actually tow. Works well for that too. :D

I still get 18 to 20 commuting if I keep my foot out of it, with a noticeable reduction in off the line hesitation / stumble.
I haven't been able to get any better mileage in Normal mode day to day.

I'll use ECO on a (non-towing) road trip only.

    Works for me. YMMV.

Besides shift points; ECO also shortens A/C compressor cycle times. Throttle response seems different as well. Sport mode is said to also affect steering response giving a tighter feel. Just remember Tow/Haul modes limit Trans OD use. I’m not positive of the difference between the two with OD. Need to test that.
