If you have the dreaded 30-50 mph hum that goes away in 4hi, you need to replace the drivers side needle bearing with the EGCS bushing. Makes the hum go away.

Its an easy 1-2 hour job-

    • Jack up the truck and properly support.
    • Remove the wheel. Unbolt the caliper assembly (17mm) and brake line support bolt (12mm) Open the ABS wire from its support, and hang the caliper so no undue stress is on the brake line or ABS wire.
    • Remove the rotor.
    • Remove the center cap, cotter pin, lock cover and axle nut (39 mm). Tap the end of the axle with a dead blow hammer to loosen.
    • Remove the 2 lower 17mm bolts by the ball joint. Swing the hub assembly out of the wa, removing the axle from the hub in the process.
    • Remove the CV axle.
    • Check the diff seal and replace if needed.
    • Put a wad of plastic (like a cut up trash bag) into the axle just past the needle bearing. This will prevent the removal tool from going too deep into the diff (feel around- you’ll see what I’m talking about).
    • Using needle nose pliers, place the removal tool in the axle (raised section out) at an angle to get it centered behind the needle bearing.
    • Once placed, thread the all thread into the tool, put the backing plate onto the all thread, then spin the 19mm nut onto the all thread.
    • Remove the needle bearing.
    • Remove the plastic placed earlier in the axle housing.
    • Lube the bushing. Using the install tool, install the bushing, flat steel side out. Drive it in till flush.
    • Install the CV axle- use ONLY a dead blow hammer!
    • In reverse order, reinstall all components.
    • Test drive and enjoy the silence!

I have the bearing removal tool and bushing install tools available- you’ll have to get the bushing from EGCS.
