Pic explains it all... gave it a few turns, sheared. Any thoughts on what needs to get replaced? Is it the whole cable?

Also upon my investigation of ebrake , driver side is taught at all time no matter what... and the passenger side slacks and tightens as per normal . Any idea what would be the culprit for that?

Both bell cranks move and are not seized

Looks like you’ll need new cables.

I hope you have much better luck than I’ve had with a parking brake. I replaced every piece and followed the service manual steps and have never been able to make mine hold.

I’m hindsight I wish I’d have invested in a disc brake upgrade instead of trying to fix the terrible setup that was there.

Yea , it looks like maybe if I can drill out the broken piece out of the front cable part, maybe I can just buy a rear cable instead.

Man that's not encouraging... any idea if it's a huge job to do a disc brake conversion? I'm guessing expensive, since you gotta buy all components

Both cables are the same age…

There’s a few threads here where people have used various methods to retrofit. There’s also a couple YouTube videos but I’ve not seen many good options to make the factory parking brake work well and a lot of people remove it altogether when they change to disc.
I did the bypass hack and put a manual portioning valve to even make the truck driveable when I bought it last year.
It’s shocking to me how badly the brake system was designed on the first gens.

Hmm it's the first time I hear of not being able to keep the parking brake adjusted well, sounds like other people aren't having this issue too much?

The brake system is a little finicky, but can be adjusted and work properly. New hardware is available, I would recommend going through the rear brakes altogether to make sure the pads, wheel cylinders and adjusters are in working order. Anything that needs to be replaced and or rehabbed can be done at the same time. Then replace the cable hardware and adjust as described. Mine work great.
