Picking up my father's 2002 Tundra with the 4.7 next week to take over and found out he has been driving it around for 2 years with the knock sensor faulty code/check engine light... Will there be any damage as a result? I do not want to walk into an issue.... Plan on replacing it as soon as I pick it up.
    Thanks!

Sweet Deal on the hand me down 1st Gen.

Will there be damage? Hard to tell.

Here is how I look at Sensors: They are there for a reason so you should replace them. There are two. They are near the Starter. All three of these items are under the Manifold and take some work getting to them. I suggest replacing all 3 items at the same time.

The Knock Sensors cost about $170 each from the Stealership and you can buy a Reman’d Starter (Heavy Duty Version 2.0kV) for about $130 from Denso Online.

    Assuming your truck is 4.7L.

I drove around for quite a while with mine on. No harm in it;just shitty mileage. Take a look between the intake runners at the engine valley and see if you can see the wires or if theres a rat's nest in there.
