I’ve got a 2017 Tundra 4x4, and I’ve spent the better part of a couple hours reading various posts on how much grease to pump into each zerk. I’ve seen some claim that you should only pump until you feel resistance or until grease comes out, I’ve seen some state that pumping until grease comes out indicates you blew the seal, and I’ve seen some recommend only pumping two or three times. With my past trucks, by the time I felt resistance, there was a little coming out of the seal. Any advice is appreciated.

A little of this and a little of that.
I've always used 2-3 pumps in each zerk but my mechanic says I should be pumping until grease comes out. That way it gets the old junked up grease outta there. I'm so

Yep....pump until you see new grease and no more air gurgling sounds. Sometimes air gets trapped.

U-joints: until the old grease and air is purged.

Slip yokes: I've only ever done 3-4 pumps, you can overgrease them and it puts the shaft in a bind because of the extra pressure from too much grease.

I don’t see a way to grease the slip yoke without taking something apart.

Those are indeed the slip yokes, but they are sealed and have no zerks to grease.

Okay thanks, the zerks on or in the joints adjacent to the slip yokes are strictly for the u-joints?

Yes. Grease them until you see fresh grease coming out. That’s what I do. After the initial grease the first time I did it, it only takes a few pumps. The first time it took quite a few to fill it up.

FYI you’re going to need to scrape the paint off of the zerk fittings first.

Thanks guys, I’ll give it a go today. What is everyone using to access the front drive shafts zerks? I’ve seen some recommend the needle tips or grinding down the sides of a normal tip.

I only use a long grease hose with a regular lincoln coupler. It fits OK if you get everything turned just the right way. The one at the transfer case I point up and toward the driver’s side, and snake the hose in to it.
