Drivers Side Left Ball Joint Failure

Hi anyone have info or advice for this catastrophic failure of my drivers side left ball joint

Sounds like you didn’t get the recall letters to replace the LBJ.

 

What recalls do 01 have?

I called my local dealer they said my tundra had no recalls, 310k

I know I’m on the wrong side of town, but I’ll wager it all on catastrophic thread failure for the win, Alex.

It's probably already been done, so there isn't an active recall.
Have them dig into the past work (early to mid 2000's) and see if it's been taken care of.

Mine happened when NTB forget to put the cotter pin in the spindle going into the lower control arm.
Nut came off and the spindle popped out while driving..

 

Just the LBJs and the rear crossmember are the only ones I recall. Bunch of TSBs to upgrade and replace things like your calipers for vibration during braking for example, but those are only covered under warranty.

 

Second this. I had LBJ recall work done way back in 2007.

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS AND MINI VANS, DUE TO POSSIBLE IMPROPER FINISHING OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINT, SOME BALL JOINTS MAY EXPERIENCE AN INCIDENTAL DETERIORATION OF THE INTERNAL LUBRICATION. THIS MAY CAUSE THE BALL JOINT TO WEAR AND LOOSEN PREMATURELY, WHICH COULD RESULT IN INCREASED STEERING EFFORT, REDUCED VEHICLE SELF-CENTERING, AND NOISE IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION.

Consequence
IN EXTREME CASES, IF THE VEHICLE IS CONTINUOUSLY OPERATED IN THIS CONDITION, THE LOWER BALL JOINT MAY SEPARATE FROM THE KNUCKLE AND COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.

What Owners Should Do
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINTS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 28, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.

 

Hi there I’ve just been very busy withFamily and some other matters however my understanding about the recall is it didn’t affect the 2000 tundras just 2000 to 2007

 

Did you experience any warning signs prior to the failure? I’m getting some crazy noises and wondering if I’m being paranoid enough to justify replacing mine
