Ok maybe I am dumb. I stick the key in the driver's door and turn left or right. Door will not unlock or lock. Any ideas. Been like that since day 1. Key for works just fine. What am I missing??

The key only works one way. Despite it fitting in both ways. If you look at the cut it’s different on one side vs the other. I use mine regularly to lock truck with it running while dogs inside with ac on. Put it one way it won’t work. Flip it over and it works.

Im guessing the key mechanism is not seated properly. This happened to me when I replaced my door handles - just pull out the mechanism and try to seat it again, test that it works before you re-attach the screws.

Here's a video on how to remove the key mechanism.

The first time I changed out my driver's door lock mechanism I did not get the lock cylinder fitted into the new one and the key would not work. The key would turn but it didn't do anything. The second time I installed it, I did it correctly and made sure the rod was fitted into the back of the mechanism. Now that I know how easy it would have been to take the lock cylinder out, I would have removed it.
