Driver side door handle replacement

Ok, heres the deal. Someone tried to break into my girlfriends truck and and busted the lock out and broke the handle. I know the replacement is pretty straight foward, but what im having an issue with is how the lever release is supposed to be orientated. (does that make sense?) I guess i could take the passanger side off to get an idea. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Ok I'll get some pics. The handle is just flopping, no tension at all. so whatever latch its supposed to catch on to open the door there not connecting. Thank you for the reply

 

remove door panel from inside. there should be a green wire you attach to the handle.
