Lock or unlock unless I use the remote key fob meaning the actuator works ?

The tailgate does the same. Is this a issue of accessing the tumbler loosening it with tools/ hammer and lubricant....or I'm gonna have to replace the whole lock unit ??
Anyone else experience this before ?? It happened to my Tacoma passenger side after only 2years new, admitably I seldom used the key on that side since it had remote locks.
My biggest fear is loosing the fob or battery going dead and can't open the door. Don't mind going to a auto locksmith but if it's a matter of simple mechanics I'm willing to ruin it trying to fix it since It's not working anyway...lol
By the way I haven't had luck finding YouTube videos on this ??

('07 tundra sr5)my tailgate lock wouldn't move using key, sprayed wd40 into it (soaked it) kept gently trying to move tumbler using key & it finally starting working.

I had that issue and it turned out the cause was a worn out key. The lock (driver door, glove box and tailgate) worked fine with my back up key. Can you take that key out of the ignition while the vehicle is running? If so, the key is worn out. A fresh cut key from the dealership should fix it. If you feel the need to lubricate the lock assembly, use a graphite lubricate. Regular WD-40 is not recommended because dust will get stuck to it and cause more issues in the future.

Wow. I think there's 5 different wd40 variants now. Far out.

    You called it.
So the truck came with two keys and Fobs. After reading this ...again I took key #2 with some pb blaster sprayed on the key and presto....the driver door and tailgate now lock and unlock. Now to get Fresh key made.
    Thanks kos221.
