If it’s just a joint then replace it. Can buy Spicer Ujoints on Amazon.

I don't recommend listening to the guys with the newer trucks, there've been cases in the past where bad info has been provided because they weren't aware of specific issues related to 1st gen trucks, quirks like this, where multiple joints listed for same year/make/model.

Also, don't recommend buying parts off scAmazon or fleaBay, so many people have managed to get counterfeit parts because neither vets (or is able to vet) the inventory people are selling on their marketplace and warehouses.

Just curious, before answering the original Q, can you share the info or symptoms that make you think it's the double cardan joint that's bad, versus a u-joint or carrier bearing which would be more likely to go out?

If it's the double Cardon joint in the middleish part of the shaft isn't that non serviceable? Don't most just reccomend a new driveshaft?

Shifty, the symptom was a slight vibration that had increased to where i knew there was a problem. I took it to one place and they didnt catch the problem. The second place ( a mechanic) crawled under the truck and found movement in the cardon joint. He advised that some of those cardon joints were a problem because of the line up of the shaft thus vibration if improprely done. He said some couldnt be done although I cant remember the description he used.

I took my shaft to a specialist. They checked the balance after I had replaced the carrier bearing and the u-joints. Parts for the cardan joint (originally made by Spicer) are not available. Drive shaft guy said my joint was fine, and only made a slight tweak to the balance.

Although you can get an entire double cardan joint assembly, it cannot be used with our shafts due to the kind of weld used on the original cardan (so says drive shaft guy).

I would take your shaft to a specialist. If indeed the cardan is bad, then you'll need a new shaft. There are multiple options (OEM, new/custom, rebuilt), all of them costly.

    What he said ^^

Can you tell us more about the vibration, what it feels like, when it happens most - like, what speed range, low speeds and/or high speeds only, mostly while accelerating and/or while holding speed and/or while braking or decelerating - just curious.

I'm suspicious of the claim you were given, but maybe that's just me having read too many bullshit stories on here of people getting ripped off. I don't fault them, mechanics have to wrench to make money, you can't wrench if you don't score work. But this would be the first case I've seen on here in the 2yrs I lurked and 2 years I signed up and we've seen a LOT of issues.

Anyway, one thing you didn't mention is whether or not your truck is stock suspension or if it's lifted. Changes in driveline angle can cause vibrations. Actually, a number of things can cause vibrations, I'd be shocked if it was the double cardan because I feel like it would be a unicorn of a case, but again, maybe that's just me.

Drivelines rarely get lubed. I'd do what w666 said, and also consider replacing

Posting these threads over here also. Several topics about vibration and some angle discussion may be found in these, which may help at least give you some insight.

It's worth noting that wheel cupping was probably one of the most unusual cases of some vibration for one member. I would've never suspected it.

Thanks for the info, However this truck whom i purchased from a family member was never lifted. The tires on it now are stock size so no lift there I dont think.

If i may ask though, what number u joints would be needed if i were to try to replace the ujoints inside the cardone or knuckle joint? ive bee told that the joints are the same size from front to back on the driveline? In other words one size ujoint for all the places?
