I noticed my truck making a groaning noise like a power antenna going down after I shut off my truck and searching here said it’s normal but I noticed when I turned my truck back on it was on defrost mode and each time I turned the dial to change selections for the vent it would make like a slight groaning clicking noise, searching on here said that it’s my blend door/servo motor, everything works hvac wise, cold stays cold heat stays hot defrost defrosts etc I’m just wondering if a slight click groaning noise is normal I just noticed it today but only had my truck two weeks and never changed the setting from top vent to anything else. 75k miles and clean cabin filter, my buddies 2017 which is a year newer and his the push buttons since his is a limited makes the exact same noise but his is a little louder when he switches modes from vent to defrost etc

    here’s mine from tonight
https://youtu.be/hVGeVpFlD6c?si=9UL_XRdlRMeboCWF I’m just freaking out because I don’t want to have to remove my dash and it’s about a $2500 fix if it’s a bad blend door

Mine's a 2017 and makes the same noise. Not as loud as your buddy's but the sound is there, kind of like yours. It seems to be normal, so if everything works the way it's supposed to I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine does the same, I wondered if it was dust inside the system.

I'd planning to steam clean my system as there is alot of dust in all my vents and behind the dash.

Another random guy I messaged on Facebook market place said his makes the same noise lol

it’s pretty crazy I’ve had a ton of 4Runners and Tacomas (literally over a dozen) and they never had this issue, hopefully it’s normal because this and the cam tower leak are about an 8,000 job with one ripping apart your empire and the other ripping apart your dash, your truck may never be the same if they do either

My '17 SR5 doesn't sound close to that, I can barely hear the vent changes. Not sure what you guys have going on.

I had my cam towers resealed around 20k miles, no ragrets.

interesting, I personally know two guys and a guy who I randomly messaged on Facebook marketplace who have that noise and if you search here on this forum you’ll see quite a few guys have the same noise to varying degrees which makes me believe Toyota used a cheap vendor for the servo and the blend doors like I said this is virtually an unheard (pun intended) issue on Tacomas and 4Runners but pretty common on the tundras just from searching on the forum yet alone all the people I know who has the same issue

On my 07, the gears stripped out on the blend door. Nothing so far on my 17

Mine barely makes a noise my buddy and the other guys I heard are a lot louder, I don’t keep rigs too long so hopefully I won’t have issues for however long I keep this one. Just very odd I’d say it’s a psuedo common problem yet something like the cam tower people are unaware of and mechanics down play it because of how big and unpleasant the job is that’s my theory but from my research I would say Toyota absolutely used a cheap product for the servo on the 2nd gen tundras so it’s another ticking time bomb just like the cam towers. My buddy who is an actual mechanic was suprised when I told him about it and he heard it on his, he never noticed until I pointed it out

Sounds normal. I had a 2017 with auto controls that had groaning blend doors. I have a 2007 with manual controls that groans too. It had a broken blend door due to obstruction when I bought it. Put in a heater box from a 2012 ‐ still groans! It's just what they sound like.

I have a 20 with the auto controls and it seems even on heat/floor only, it still blows some air out of the dash vents. Is this normal ?

I have a 2016 SR5 with manual controls and mine makes a similar noise, maybe a bit higher pitched. Not currently worried about it but it does surprise me every once in a while.
