Does lowering the rear window make your headlights stay on?

2021 Crewmax. I loaded it into a conex for shipping and had to climb out the rear window (not the back door window but the one that spans the cab in front of the bed).

The headlights would not shut off. Had to disconnect the battery. They were set to auto, I did not try turning the headlight switch to off. Just wondering if them staying on when the window is down normal or not? Thanks guys

I've definitely left the back window down if I run somewhere at night and have not had this issue. The headlights have a delay to turning off once you get out and lock it, but should not be staying on. If you hit lock on the key fob twice it actually gets rid of the delay and shuts off the lights as well.

Thanks for the reply. I left it unlocked and keys in it By the time I was able to slither under the truck to get to the battery about 10 minutes had gone by. Lights were still on. Was the first time I've put the back window down. Previously the headlights worked fine with the auto shutoff delay. Any ideas what I should start looking for to correct the problem? Truck only has 3000 miles on it.

If I press my lock button a second time right after locking the truck, it shuts off the headlights. But I’ve never tried it with the rear window down. I leave my headlights on the Auto setting almost exclusively.

Hopefully you'll be able to open the hood and jump start it.

Was it a push button start with a key fob? If so it is probably because you left the key fob in the truck. I have a 2019 with a keyed ignition (no button) and a head ache rack mounted on back so you can't crawl in or out of the truck through that window so sometimes when is real hot in summer I can leave that window down with out worrying about getting broken into and have never had any problems with the head lights staying on.

It is a push button start with keyfob. I always leave the fob in it and never had an issue with the lights not shutting off. Same with my 2022 tacoma. Will be interesting to see what the cause is when i get the truck again

One behavior I noticed is when I pull in my drive way at night and shut the truck off and get out of the truck and leave the drivers door open the head lights will stay on until I close the door. I noticed this while unloading groceries but I have never experienced any issues with the rear window and head lights.

Pretty sure it's because you never opened a door after turning it off. Timer starts after the door opens. :notsure:

Yup, exactly. Even opening the door an inch is enough.

If not he'll be crawling back in through the window, dropping it into reverse, crawling back out, and then pulling it out of the conex by the tailgate!

I don't think there is anything wrong, so no reason for concern. The window being down has nothing to do with the lights. It is just because you left the lights on auto and didn't open the door or lock the truck.
