Does it really help? After all these threads I just may change mine on my 19 sr5 non jbl.
Does it really sound better with stock speaker, which I will eventually change. I am thinking pioneer. I had a ke wood in my Tacoma and half the music on my flash drive would not play but did in my daughters 4 runner with a pioneer. Also they do not play in my stock Tundra radio. Which really annoys me, plus stock is not that loud with pandora ors usb. Radio is loud but reception sucks. I also want car play but not sure how to use it, I am guessing it’s my phone mirrored basically. And input appreciated.

Well I just bought my new 19 Tundra SR5 a few days ago and I will be replacing my head unit asap.
Apple CarPlay is a must have for me as I drive about thirty thousand miles a year for work. So with CarPlay you will have access to several apps on the screen of the head unit, it doesn’t actually mirror your phones screen. In my grand Cherokee that I just traded, CarPlay worked like a charm.
So for me the critical apps that you will have touch screen access to are wayz, audible, Apple Music, voice to text, podcasts. Those are what I used almost everyday and I’m sure there are others I’m not using but that’s what works for me. I’m looking for a head unit that will be able to use the usb connection rather than Bluetooth. Hope that helps a little.

I've had the 1st and now the 2nd gen Phoenix HU and am very satisfied with a great sound improvement, especially in volume. I basically use it for the radio, u-tube and a 2TB hard drive in the glovebox. I belive the 3rd gen now has outlets for video out, that would be nice for a rear monitor. Any head unit besides the stock will be a great improvement for volume.

Installed 50w x 4 pioneer in 07 non JBL, sounds much better. Stock probably 20w at best.

Edit: Quality get better? Maybe. Louder definitely, pushes speakers much more.
I also gained Bluetooth, NAV, and Back-up camera so a Big Win for me.
