I usually leave at least some amount of tip, but it mostly depends on the quality of service that I receive. Since before Covid customer service seems to be a lost skill, so when I do get good service I try to acknowledge it.

At a restaurant if I get great service, the person is attentive, keeps my glass full and has a good attitude then I will leave 25 -30%. If they don't have to do a lot of work like just getting me a drink and serving something pre-made then I leave $2 - $3 dollars, same with a bartender. I usually tip the pizza delivery person $7 and I don't tip for take out. I will also give $10 -$20 to the person at the lumberyard, furniture store, or similar places if they help me load things. I don't stay in hotels too often but I will leave $5 -$10 on the table for the maid.

I think the biggest tip I gave was $100 to the HVAC guy that came and fixed my AC within a couple hours of calling.

Restaurants I do 20% start and the server has to chip away from that.

My electrician was given a 200.00 tip.

    Guess it's all situational.

I travel for a living and tip 20% + roundup to next dollar whether it’s $0.01 or $0.99 when by myself. 30% at upscale joint with customers.

Generally 20% but I also tend to only frequent small, locally owned businesses that I want to stay in business.

20% baseline, if they really suck that goes down. If they're really good it goes up. If they're pregnant I usually tip $100. My wife and I get pedicures once a month and I tip them $50/person since I feel bad for them touching people, and they're nice. Barbers is usually $20 minimum. Stuff like that.

I have money to spare, and a lot of people work really fucking hard for shit pay. If I can leave a fat tip so a girl or guy can go to the movies or date night or do something fun or stress less about a bill, it's (somewhat sadly) a drop in the bucket for me by comparison. Not saying that in a bragging manner, I'm just very lucky and if I can give some luck to someone else that's great.

I'm another 20% baseline person. It can go up or down depending on the service. And it can absolutely go to zero for horrendous service. This usually applies more to attitude than food, because I know that the server isn't doing the cooking.

When we had our shower door installed, the installer did everything he could to get us a discount, including pointing out a flaw in the door he found that we never would have seen.

I tipped him the difference he saved me.

This...but I also tip take-out as the few places we get it from do have excellent staff.

I also tip in cash as much as possible. "Taxation is theft" is always in the tip line when I do. ;)

I tip well, especially the places I frequent often. Waiting on people is a pain in the ass, some customers leave a mess, & some don’t tip what they should. It is not the server’s fault if the kitchen Or bartender messed up the order. My job requires me to travel a lot throughout the state of Wyoming. The only disappointing service I have received has been in Jackson, but Wyoming people consider Jackson an alien planet so I never get upset in that ego driven community.

Customer service is a PITA and people suck. Trying to still smile and be nice when the last people you helped left a mess and no tip would just set me over the edge. I also try to go to the more local mom and pop businesses. I hate the places that add on a mandatory gratuity and I try to avoid them. I will sometimes tip the fast food window worker but I dont go there often. During the height of Covid we did the grocery pickup thing at the local store so I tipped the person who brought them out to us.

Good service is what means the most to me. If a place is super busy and our server is working 10 tables and still giving us great service then I really appreciate that they are hustling. I do not tip just because a waitress is cute or wearing a low cut top.

Servers don't split their tips with the kitchen staff?

I think it depends on the restaurant. I know of some that do and some that don't.

20% baseline at restaurant, but I will go over and under depending on service. It’s pretty rare that I have gotten bad service, but when I did, I left nothing or rounded the change up as a middle finger. I do have to order delivery meals sometimes, and I always add extra tip.

I’ll tip $1 per beer at the bar, as much as $5 for a cocktail.

$5 for the guy who fills the propane tank, same for the gas attendant (I’m in Oregon) if the station is busy and they are busting it.

I give a Lincoln to food delivery guys and at least 20% to a server. But the best tip I ever gave was to the wife

Situational - dine in 15-25% depending upon meal/service. Simply put it takes no more or less effort to bring me a $8 burger or a $68 steak - so flat rate tipping isn’t my thing - attitude and service go a long way.

Movers - $20-50 a man depending on job.

Landscapers and pool maintenance again $20-50

With food service - it’s “expected” I mean someone making a few bucks an hour obviously relies on tips. Things like a mover or landscaper - it’s not “expected” but never been turned down either.

DoorDash - a couple bucks. Sorry but if your job can be done while carrying on a phone conversation and while carting around your three kids - it’s clearly not too demanding.

Service people who go above and beyond or help me out - I tend to give a little bonus - but I don’t consider it a tip. More like a wink and nod - you save me $150 your employer was going to overcharge for your labor and I give you $50-100 as a reward.

Most provinces in Canada pay min wage to servers ($15/h for example). I tip at restaurants mostly because it is expected, but I would much rather pay more for the food, have the server earn a living wage and get benefits and have get rid of tipping all together. Customers are subsidizing an industry that treats their employees like shit and pay them pennies.

The original idea of tipping was for people to be rewarded for exceptional service. NOT to make up for the restaurant underpaying the servers. I wish that were the case today. People who expect a tip but give mediocre service at best really rub me the wrong way.

My wife tips because if I do, and the server was horrid, I'd make sure they see a fat 0 in the tip line. She would get embarrassed so she always does the tipping.

I typically tip based on the service/situation. I don’t see the logic behind tipping based on the tab. I’ve been to mom & pop sit downs and had way better service than some of the finer dining places. Bottom line is; good service=good tip.

Yes, I would rather have restaurants increase prices for everyone and pay better wages so customers don't have to worry about tipping.

Sometimes, but it's gotten out of hand now that everywhere is asking you for a tip. Some places, the servers have to package the take out food and bring it out.

    When I'm in the States, I tip 20 - 30%. I know it's.a part of their wage.

Here in Canuckistan in most provinces waitressess all make minimum wage of $15/hr. I personally know waitresses who clear $400 - $500+ in a 6 hour shift thanks to tips and that's after giving a small cut to cooks (who generally make a wage of $18 - $20/hr+). I almost never tip here, there's no need for it. In what world does taking an order, carrying a plate of food and refilling my glass mean you should make more than a journeyman welder?

In a resturant usually 25%, once in Canada I rounded a $60 check up to $100. That was in 1987 so in today dollars that $40 would be about $100.
It was a small resturant (5 tables) with 1 waitress per table.

My dad used to tip the mechanics at the Honda dealer a case of beer every christmas and at trade in.

That used to be absolutely not. But Covid changed some of that because I thought the kids who were actually willing to work instead of sitting at home playing video games deserved a little extra.
