I've been getting mixed answers on whether tundras have A-trac and if so in 4wd? I went offroading the other day and turned off my "nannies" but realized that I couldn't get up this hill due to one of my tires being in the air. I have a 2014 Tundra Platinum 4x4

Compared to the ATRAC on my FJ Cruiser, the TRAC function on my 2020 tundra is nothing like it and only works in 2WD mode. So as far as I'm concerned, the Tundra does not have ATRAC. You can search the 2020 Tundra owners manual and the word "ATRAC" does not appear.

It is, because it's in the 2.5 gen section. Not sure if a similar list has been built for the 3rd gen.

See post #2's link for a very detailed answer to your question....

But, simply put, no our trucks do NOT have 'A-Trac' (My 2019 4Runner Limited did have A-Trac, but it's a different system)

Our trucks do have Traction Control and Hill Start Assist. Both of these systems are active in 2WD models or 4WD models (in 2WD mode). When you turn off the Traction Control it will also turn off Hill Start Assist, and this is indicated by a warning light on the instrument cluster "TRAC OFF" .

If you look for a section within your owner's manual titled 'Using the Driving Support Systems' you will find more information on the above assists as well as the Auto LSD system, Brake Assist, Trailer Sway Assist and VSC (vehicle stability control)....

They do. It’s automatically on in 4Hi and 4Lo without turning off other nannies. The earlier 2nd gen manuals call it TRAC in 2wd and A-TRAC in 4wd, and the later 2nd gen manuals just call it TRAC. It’s not activated by a button push like the 4Runner, but it is on automatically until you turn it off.

Get hung up on rough terrain with diagonally opposed wheels hanging in the air. In a fully open part-time 4wd system, you’re stuck. Push the ATRAC button in your 4Runner, and crawl right out. Similarly, your Tundra will do the same brake grab to send power to the other wheel on each axle. It’s just on automatically. Mine kicks in quite a bit and is very useful offroad if I pick a good line.

To be fair, you turned off all the aids then ask why the aids didn't help you...

Excellent answer and hadn't seen it in the Owner's Manual. I made a copy of the table with notes to keep handy as a reference when I forget what the selectable controls mean. Like the OP, when I'm doing abnormal things such as off-roading conditions, I tend to want to limit the auto features. The table tells me what I'm disabling. THX, Mr T!

In my 2015 manual it clearly states that there is ATRAC in 4WD automatically.
