Preface: Ok, I don’t know much about shocks. Well, I don’t know jack about them.

    Story:
I took my truck out to the forest today to get it muddy and have some fun. Stopped at a car wash on the way home to hose the mud off the wheels because there was enough on them to ruin the balance. As Im cleaning them, I realize that I have Bilstein shocks. Well I bought my truck from a Toyota dealer used (2018 ) with only a couple thousand miles on it. They said it was a “loaner”. I’ve been reading about lifts, level kits, etc and everybody constantly talks about Bilstein shocks. So now I’m wondering, do I have shocks on already that I can use to level my truck, or are these some cheaper ones that Toyota puts on all the tundras? 8E8907A9-7B9F-445A-8690-857BB07534D2.jpg2D692618-E7EF-487A-983A-C8B9FEAC88C9.jpg

Yes the yellow shocks are standard for the TRD off-road. They also offer the black shocks which might be a little more plush. The yellow ones are 4600s. Sorry not very special though LOL. But if you get the TRD pro those come with Fox as of 2019.

Those are the Bilstein 4600 Series shocks that come with the TRD Off-Road package. You'll need different Bilstein (5100 or 6112) shocks to level out your truck.

To my understanding, the Sport shocks are tuned for road performance (tighter/stiffer for better cornering). The Off-Road shocks are tuned for...off roading.

On that note. What version of the Bilstein shocks are on my beautiful 2017 TRD PRO R.D.E?

Welcome. I don't think they're a "series". They're Bilstein TRD Pro shocks, I've never heard them called anything else. If they haven't been swapped out.

Yeah Ive had a 2011 and a 2014 sr5 Tundras and there was a portion of highway that felt like a whoop section. Not even noticeable on this truck

They are similar to the 5160s or 6112s but are made only for Toyota valved specifically for the Tundra TRD Pro.

So if not a TRD model, are they still Bilstein? I know they are not yellow 4600s.

Standard black shocks are not Bilstein. They are made by Tokiko if I remember correctly. TRD off road gets the yellow Bilstein version. TRD Sport gets the red Bilstein version.

I'll see if I can tell if it ever stops raining here.
At 30k miles, I don't need to changes from the factory shocks yet, but planning ahead.

I want to keep the rake, as I have a truck cap and bedslide installed, so additional weight in the rear by default now. Going from 275/55/20s to 275/60/20s I believe when I have to replace the factory tires sooner than later.

I am just shocked at how this thread is bouncing around. Someone needs to come along and dampen the jitters and shimmies, and I guess that will have to be me.
