Just got a quote to Line-X the bed of the truck… almost $900.

Anyone done it themselves with something like Herculiner?

Mine has a drop-in, just not real happy with it… but I’ll keep it if the only acceptable alternative is that kind of cash…

Raptor Liner is the way to go for DIY.
    Prep is key.

I have Vortex Spray in liner with lifetime warranty on 2 trucks. Paid $450 well worth it over doing it yourself.

WTF is 900 the rate now or is there something unique about your truck or that dealer? Been 7-8 years since I had it done on a truck. Contemplating taking the drop in out of my New truck and doing it at some point but not for no 900

I called a few Line-X dealers before I settled on one. The price ranges I got were 599-950. I'm really not sure why they were so different but went with the 599 and am glad I did! no complaints!

If you DIY- prep is absolutely key!

Just got a quote-that is the new normal rate in California at least. That is for bottom of the line coating-no UV inhibitors, etc.

I rolled 2 x 1 gal. cans of herculiner on mine, pretty solid if just a little time consuming. Get Xylene and spare rollers/brushes! you'll regret not having extras.

yikes! When I got mine done, it was a few months after the big freeze in Texas and apparently materials were on national back order.

    Clean slate
Nice job on the bed off ,DIY raptor liner. I will be doing mine this spring along with running boards and other odds and ends. Looks like you had big psi to atomize the coating maybe 40-60?. And an even overlap pattern with a 24 to 30” distance from the surface. possibly a drop coat to finish it off? Please give a tip or two.

Herculiner rolled in and then I reinstalled the bedliner. Best of both worlds.

MY BIL did his own with Raptor Liner and it came out pretty nice.

Also - see if there is a Bullet Liner dealer near you. Same guy that invented Line-X developed Bullet.

I had Bullet on my 2011 CM and have same on my 2016. Same look and feel as Line-X and the cost is not as much.

Pic of my 2016 with BL.

I had some scratches and some rust forming so I sanded it and sprayed it with Rustoleum brand bed liner spray can. It’s the better/more expensive can from the parts store. I did both sides like this with 2 light coats and I will probably end up doing the entire bed. I don’t haul much so this will be good for me and it’s a lot cheaper then a professional spray in liner. I have the Toyota bed mat also which isn’t shown in the picture.

My vote is the Raptor liner. As others have said, prep is the most important step. Scuff all paint to a dull finish and hit any bare metal(scratches) with a self etching primer. Then spray away. I did my 2010 F150 in raptor liner and the only trouble spot I had was 7 years later when a rust bubble formed from under the bed due to a heat shield issue.

The biggest issue I have is the fading of the DIY liners. It seems that even after a month of sun exposure the DIY versions turns chalky.

I did my bed in Herculiner last summer. So far it’s holding up good. Like was said, prep is everything and a little time consuming. Make sure you wear rubber/latex gloves and old clothes when brushing and roller the coating on. That stuff is hard to get off your skin. This is the only pic I got of the bed liner job. The floor has a rubber Matt.080AC225-A207-4396-A669-4AC709940EC7.jpg

What is wrong with the drop in? With spray on/in liners they can get compromised and rust behind them. You can buy an UNLINER for your drop in if your buy into the scratch thing. Just sayin.

Unliner?? Never heard of it, but will definitely research. My main concern with the liner is the same, it rusting under/behind it. From what I can see, no rust yet, at least in the visible areas…

Some posts on here are where Raptor liner products were used and some where Herculiner was used.

Is one better than the other?

    Too many, but not enough....
My bed came lined from the factory, but I used Raptor liner cans to touch up the rhino lining that I scrapped off my sliders during offroading, the prep is important but it came out really well. Not quite as gritty as the rhino lining but I didnt mind since my scrapes were on the bottom of the sliders. I would definitely use it in my bed if it didnt come from the factory with the liner.

If you are going to apply it to your bed, I would use a spray gun or roller, the cans are pretty messy, you have to hold it pretty far back and it gets everywhere. Luckily I used a bunch of old cardboard to sheild the white paint lol.
