Currently installing the ditch lights and need some input on most efficient angle to point the ditch lights.

Should it be angled out or a little more straight? I’ve heard of hood glare, so wanting to see if I can avoid that.

I suggest adjusting it on the trail to what works best for you.

My personal opinion: people that have them pointed perfectly forward don't really use them for their intended purpose :)

Mine are angled out about like that. Started with them straight out but that didn't do much good with headlights. I mainly use mine to light up those ditches to see deer.

Here’s the other side facing forward. This side doesn’t seem like it’ll serve its’ purpose though...

Lol! I had a feeling that it shouldn’t be pointed straight forward.

Sweet, yeah the backroads of Connecticut sometimes get sketchy, so the angle does look good to me!

    Thanks for the quick responses!

are those the lights with the side projecting leds? Looks like they are installed on the wrong sides. Would explain some hood glare.

Ok, how the heck are you guys getting the wiring through the nipple on the firewall? With a clothes hanger?

I’m having the hardest time pulling it through.

    Any tips would be appreciated!

Like Kanobi13 said, cut the tip-off and also make sure you are lined up with a hole inside the truck since the gromet is two separate layers of pretty thick rubber. A little drop of dish soap and a drop of water will also go a long way to lube up whatever you are pulling through and it should slide a lot easier.

If you don’t have any other auxiliary lights on your truck, they will be more useful pointing them forward, slightly out.

I personally like them pointed out. On a trail, at night, I would like to see where I'm turning to. Unless you have a prerunner (actual, tubed prerunner), or LT and a sick driver mod, you probably won't outrun your headlights.

Should be in every tool box. Makes punching thru that rubber firewall grommet easy. Be careful to not punch it too far. Simply break the surface enough to feed the wire through. I'm giving myself 3 attaboy's.

So I used a coat hangar this past week when running power to the 3W auto window module. But I was pushing through the door run, which the tool above won't help you with. For the nippel through the firewall I used a pair of snips couple with some difficult hand contortions.

I'll have to do it all over again when I put in my VLED puddle lights in my mirrors... not looking forward to it.

For of the vast majority of us....we run a lot of wires through that rubber firewall grommet. This is the Way.......

Yeah I think I have them pointed slightly outwards. It did look odd having them point straight though! Thanks for the tips, guys!

Good idea, but I think it was already tough as it is, with the limited amount of space in that area...

The tool though.. punches a hole through that rubber grommet is what you’re saying?

I’m thinking of the coat hanger method too, and to use some Wd-40 or dish soap to make it a little slippery. I was wrapping it around electrical tape, but needed something longer which I didn’t have at the moment. I’ll try again in this weekend since tomorrow is raining in my area ...

At this point......all I can add is which is better....a square wheel or a round wheel.........?

Well, all it took was a little longer piece of metal and some good old WD-40 before it slid easily through the nipple opening.

I would suggest, while you're mid swing, to pull more wires than you need. Odds are this isn't the last auxiliary equipment you'll be hooking up. Its nice not to have to fight that grommet twice. If you're going to mount one switch, mount it someplace you can mount two, its a good way to roll. I used a 12" drill bit and gave myself a new hole in the rubber and fished through a 6 pair mulitconductor SO cable. That's just what I had in the garage but I think a 2 or 3 pair would be just as good.

As for the angles, I prefer to illuminate the side more because that area is pitch black on those back roads/trails. Its all preference but I think a light bar is the right tool for front illumination and the ditch lights are perfect for lighting that black area around the truck

You know, I also had that thought in mind as well! I ended up routing the switch over to the right side, on top of my trailer brake. Figure that side will possibly soon have some chase lights (for those tailgaters)...

Will definitely take this tip into consideration!
