I was looking into building a daily driver/overlanding rig and was searching for a clean low-mileage Lexus GX470. Prices are all north of $12k and many near $15k.

While searching, I found a 2007 Sequoia Limited 4x4 loaded with 114k miles for $5100. California rig, excellent condition, never off-roaded and a total soccer mom vehicle.

What are the major differences between the Sequoia and Tundra, if any? Obviously the body, but wondering about suspension mods, bumpers, drivetrain, etc.

Would have to run 35's at a minimum with full body armor.

Do you guys think such a vehicle would be a good candidate? Or is spending the extra $10k for the Lexus worth it?

Sequoia has indipendant rear suspension. Other than that they are mechanically the same as the Tundra.

I believe that is only true for the 2008 and later models.

I got my 2006 Tundra for 5k and no one believed the price. Buy that up and then think about it. Can always sell it for profit on the back end if you don’t like it.

That said it will be more roomy than the 470 and they share the V8. It’s probably better for what you’re looking for.

    Do it, I love mine!
Fully boxed frame, rear springs and rear disk brakes are a few differences.
Here's a thread with more Sequoia info, you might want to move your thread out of 2nd Gen too.

Turns out it is further away than what my dad is willing to go look at. North of Los Angeles. It's an easy $15k vehicle around here. It's on Craigslist.

I'll keep looking for something closer, but doubt I'll ever find another one that clean and cheap.
