So I've been looking hard the past couple months. I really want a DC 5.7
Went to local dealer and drove a 5.7 CM....bruh that engine roars.
Jumped in a DC 4.6, a lil pep but not nearly has awesome as the 5.7
Im in a Z71 5.3, hardly ever tow but I'm drawn to that 5.7
The bad news, my dealer only can put his hands on 2 DC 5.7 in the TSS Black SR5 Package neither of which I like.

I'm not ruling CM completely out. Just I've spotted some decent deals on some 2016 DC 4.6 with low miles (13k/33k) for $29k/$26.5k list price.
I really want the bed space for my toys. And when Jr and I went looking he liked the DC, saying he felt lost in the CM...lol

I’d get Crewmax. I’ve had one personal truck that was an extended cab and my current work truck is an extended cab. I hate them. You are either needing just A little more room or a LOT more room. I never find my self saying dang it I wish I had less room. Love my crew max

I started out looking for a DC because of the bed length. More practical for bed use (for me, anyway). My kids are off on their own so no need for rear seat use except on occasion. I started last January after putting together a list of features (including 2wd). My dealer here (Thurston in Ukiah) was great to work with, honored my list and found one in Sacramento (about 3 hours away). we made the deal and I have exactly what I wanted (plus a lot more with the features at certain trim levels).

(Oh, and BTW, the 5.7 rocks!).

Myself having a boy only 4 yrs old can understand. I like my dc more right now because if my son wants something or just wants a high 5 at a stop light I can do that. If we where in a crew not so much .But people are right when you buy a tundra you wont need another truck for a long time so thats something to think about also . Dc 8' bed for me all day for sure. Lol but I personally like my long bed trucks .

Coming from several 5.3s myself, you will love the 5.7 yota. 5.3s dont make much torque therefore the trannys hunt gears alot. 5.7 has alot more grunt and shifts much less.

Get the CM and you won’t really miss the bed size. Shortly after getting the DC you’re gonna be stuck thinking about cab space and saying I coulda shoulda. My sister in law thought she’d be fine in a Tacoma X cab, needed the bed space. Just traded for a Tacoma DC, and now she’s tried my CM and really regretting not having any equity/leverage to do anything for a long time.

I also vote for the CM but I am a little biased. I just came from a DC Tacoma and while I loved the truck; if my wife and 7 year old were with me, she was sliding the seat a good bit up so he'd have enough room. In the CM, we don't have that problem, he also knows to keep his feet off the seats. An idea of the seating positions:

What the DC appealed to me most was: the storage under the seats and the ability to mod the seat bracket so you can access behind the seat back.

I made a drive across state lines to get the deal on my 4.6 dc. I got a better price to miles on it (not by much) for my 2018 than those mentioned above also. I came from a older 5.4 f150 and for my, not towing rarely hauling, use-case the 4.6 is perfectly fine (More pep than some cars I test drove). I didn't test drive a 5.7, but I kinda glad because I know I wouldn't need it and It would just come with more miles for the price (which for the moment was a pretty firm budget).

I personally would get the 5.7L, but some people never need the extra power. The 4.6L is no slouch.

I had a CM, and to be honest, the DC would have been a better choice for me. The interior room was amazing. I just used my flatbed trailer a lot more for hauling.

CM 1) short bed. 2) rear floor not flat, dogs, tool boxes, gear are easier w flat floor. 3) 4 big doors on a pickup truck look kinda funny.

I guess if you have kids and need a more car like experience then CM....

I think it looks really weird that the back doors are larger than the front. If you carry more people than cargo you get a Crew, if you need a truck for more truck things get a double cab.

I think the DC looks goofy as all get out on the tundras. Others trucks look fine. But for some reason the way Toyota designed theirs looks like they had an “oh crap we need to add two more doors” moment. For a work truck the longer bed is nicer. But for the average person the short bed is not a problem. Oh and in a crew max you never have to scoot your seats up for others. That always pissed me off when I had to do that in my crew cab Chevy . Now people get in and say wow I have so much room this is great! And I smile because I didn’t have to move in MY truck

Go with the crewmax! I always have friends or family and kids in mine. I do haul wood, deer, lumber and never really had an issue.
Unless you haul large items on a regular basis the shorter bed shouldn't effect you too much. My kids are young but can get in and out on their own and have plenty of room on long rides.

If you own a business, the DC full satisfies the tax deduction under the 2018 newly improved Code Section 729. The CM is not fully deductible due to its short bed.

The DC is a win/win as it looks better and has the sweet write off.

    Not nearly enough room here!
The 5.5' bed is just too short for our use. It was too short when GM refused to build a half-ton Crew Cab with anything longer and it's too short now. We fill the 6.5' bed up with gear and such for vacation every year, so I can only guess what we'd have to stash in the boat trailer with a shorter bed. We have people-haulin' duties taken care of with two Honda Pilots in Wife's garage though!

I guess I wasnt clear in orig post. I was really trying out the diff engine configurations. I need the DC just didn't know if I wanted the 4.6 or the 5.7.

But finding a DC with 5.7 is a issue plenty of 4.6s out there

Find one online not near you.
Ask about a dealer trade. Or just go to where you found one that fits your needs. Plenty of DC with the 5.7 around here. Indianapolis area.

DC really isn’t bad as far as space. I usually go 4 deep to lunch without any complaints. I have the 4.6 but if I was to do it over again I would get the 5.7 and 4x4 just because there have been times when I would have used them.
