Yesterday I set up some amber maker lights on my third gen and woke up this morning wondering if I’ve made a mistake.

    Here’s my parts list:

    1.Lights:

    2. Harness:
    https://www.diodedynamics.com/heavy-duty-single-output-2-pin-offroad-wiring-harness.html

I’m using a switch I got from Caliraised, and am good there I think.

My question is: am I putting too much power to the LEDs with the RL44 relay included in the harness? The wiring on the LED side is tiny; I had to step down from the larger wire on the harness after the relay. Did that with soldering.

I was running a fuse tap for these lights before, but while installing a LED bar, decided to use a second harness for these ambers. I really just want to make sure I haven’t created a safety issue.

As long as you fused the sources adequately for their tasks (power source and switched if applies) and properly insulate all connections/splices, than you’ll be fine.

That harness from DD has a 30 amp fuse, between the battery and relay. The old add-a-fuse that came with the marker lights from Rave was 2.

You will want to know the current draw of your lights that you are powering. The problem isn’t necessarily giving them “too much” power, it’s that you want the fuse to blow if there is a problem down line from it somewhere, whether it be a light shorting or a rubbed/bare wire causing it to ground out. The smaller wire that you went down to from the larger wire may melt or burn the insulation below 30 amps and cause you a much larger issue with the vehicular. If the lights only require a couple amps then fuse it for that or an amp or two over. Google wire gauge current chart and it will inform you, generally, of wire size/length current capabilities.

Thanks! That thin wire is what came with the marker lights. It’s 22AWG according to the spec sheet. I’ll grab a smaller amp fuse to be safe. I can’t find exact specs on the maker lights (OEM part number PT358-34220-AB) but as the add-a-fuse was just 2 amps I’ll grab a 5 or something.
