Greetings! I’m looking to buy a diagnostic scanner and willing to spend up to $1,000. I have a basic Obd2 which gives me the code. My vehicles vary from 06 tundra to 2017 Audi. Recommendations please.

so what are you trying to do exactly? are you looking for ABS/SRS, TPMS programming...or just want to display pegs to do some advance diagnosis?

Take a look at this one.. but only comes with 3 years or support.. BTW Ancel makes some great OBD2 readers... also you may look on fbmp.. most people may be willing to sell you one for half off..

Autel Maxicom MK808 (MK808BT if you want cordless version) would be my recommendation its right at $550, great for at home or small garage application's it will give you a lot of control over different modules that others won't and the full module sets.

The only thing I'm not sure on is if it will support added scopes. So I guess that would be my next question is "Do you want to be able to use scope functions on the device?"

A step up from your basic OBDII scanner is a Bluedriver which provides the ability to not only read the engine OBDII codes but also HVAC, SRS, ABS and Trans codes depending on your vehicle. It does not program keys or TPMS sensors. It's what I have and is only around $120.

I work on a wide range of cars (but primarily Toyota) and have been considering stepping up to a scanner having bi-directional control and ECM Flashing capability for 5+ years but have avoided the need so far. I don't want to make that purchase until I have to because of the continuing update costs and advancing technology. If I had to pull the trigger today, I would get a Toyota specific Mongoose and a 2 day TIS/Techstream subscription only when I needed to use it. They have a VW/Audi version but I don't know the specifics. For most purposes and other manufacturers, I would continue to use the Bluedriver.
