    Hello everyone, first post here.

I’ve got an 06 V8 tundra 4wd, and I recently dented the oil pan. I would like to get some thoughts on if it is necessary to replace the pan. My current thoughts are that’s it’s probably not a big deal, and I may replace the pan and gasket at some point in the future, especially if I’m doing other repairs in the area. It seems that either the front differential needs to come out or the engine needs to be lifted to make space for this.

    Thoughts? Thanks,

You have a custom slightly reduced capacity pan

The skid plate should cover that right? Did you mess that up too or is it missing?

As long as you don't hear any noise from there it's no problem. You'd have to have the crankshaft hitting against it before it's a concern.

+1, a buddy and I took his dad's Pinto down a dirt road deer hunting in WV. A big snowstorm hit and a Blazer towed us out. The oil pan hit a rock and the crank shaft was beating the crap out of it.

Hard to tell by the photo just how far it's pushed in. From experience two dented pans on other types didn't turn out well. One pushed the pan into the sump pickup resulting in low oil pressure and another broke the sump pickup off allowing oil pickup only if the oil level was at the top of the oil level. Going around a turn caused oil starvation.

if you didn’t hit the oil pickup tube, then it should be fine. Keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge.

Is the oil pickup tube that brown tube doohickey coming up from the bottom and going into that "mesh" strainer thing right thar?

Also, is that flat section in the tube a problem or is it supposed to look like that?

Yes, and I’m not sure about Toyotas, but I’ve seen the welds break from the gentlest of wiggles on other engines. Either at the pump flange, or the strainer falls off.

that pic was from ih8mud & may be from a 2uz land cruiser, but was the best pic I could find of the tube installed.

Lots of good answers here, but this is the most correct answer on the page IMO.

My biggest concern would be impact with the pickup orifice and screen itself, that the pan wasn't mashed into it, preventing uptake. I haven't had my pan off to see if the pickup tube snakes around and could be dented in. But yeah. No oil volume issues from this. Just interference/uptake potential.

This is a really neat and helpful picture. I've never seen the bottom of the engine exposed like this before. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all the replies! It looks like the oil baffle plate and pickup tube are a good bit higher than the dent in the lower pan according the the diagram in the FSM, so I think I’ll be okay. Thanks everyone!

    Yes ^this.
The lower steel pan being dented doesn't come close to anything. It's the upper aluminum pan that houses the oil pickup.
