I recently broke 5k miles and am trying to decide if I want to take the truck into the dealership for the free services or not. I installed the trans cooler and Fumoto valve at 1.8k. Not sure how dealerships feel about performing maintenance on “mods”.

On one hand, I wouldn’t mind being the only person who does the fluid changes. On the other hand, free is free and they supposedly check a few other things.

Interested to hear pros and cons from some of you.
FYI: I have a pretty solid dealership that would do the work.

Ha. I'm 1,000 miles away from all my tools and was forced to have a dealer do the first service. Do it yourself if you can.

The "lube tech" wont notice or care. He will do the oil change and move on.

5k service is just tire rotation and checklist stuff is it not?

I get free tire rotation at Discount Tire where I bought my rims/tires. I only use my Toyota Care visits for the free oil changes.

You are correct about the 5k service. I thought I had seen a checklist that had oil and filter but I just checked my leaflet.

I would do it yourself. Only reason I take mine is they provide lifetime engine warranty if they do all of the oil changes. Our sequoia has a snapped engine splash guard bolt (1 of 3 rear bolts) stuck in the frame from a previous dealer and only 1 of the front screws/threaded inserts is remaining. We didn't notice it until after we moved and I started doing the oil changes myself. I am sure blasting them with impact guns had no effect on the hardware...

Who knows on the accuracy of this, but I was told by a sales rep a while back the main reason they offer the free services is that they have a much greater chance of having well maintained used cars show back up on the lots since vehicles are swapped out frequently in the U.S. The customer is saving some $$ and the dealers benefit by knowing the service history of late model used cars. I am sure some mechanics can chime in with better stories, but they had a car traded in 3 years later with what appeared to be the original oil.

I have done work for several Toyota Stores as an outside contractor and met a lot of the Monkeys they use for those free services and the only one I would ever let touch anything of mine is this really hot girl one had hired but she wouldnt be getting under the truck for sure.

Genius move on the part of whoever hired her though!
If you dont know better you would sure go back for her services.

At least a Boy can dream.

My21 is going in the end of the month for oil change. My local friend Has a shop and he does all mine. I’m not taking a chance. Mine has a little over 5000 miles.

No dealer has ever touched one my 7 new-from-the-dealer Toyotas since 1985. I've never purchased an extended warranty. I've never had a problem. No broken bolts. No unremovable filters. No not rotated "we rotated" tires.

Give your girl good personal love. She'll return it in spades.
