It's a sales tactic to get you to buy a new vehicle. Don't do it.

I had same on my 18 tundra crewmax 30k miles. Very enticing as I really like the 1794 but having no car note feels real good

Yeah won't get ahead on a dealer trade. We've many of us had the same overwhelming communication from the dealer-- but it's to get you to buy a new truck. Yours has super low mileage, on a Pro, in a year with few problems. Unless they offer to buy it outright, like happened to several in here when trucks got scarce late pandemic, there's nothing there for you but loss.

To help get the point across, my 2017 is 2wd with low miles, and inferno coloured. Ain't no way they'd need this truck because it would be difficult to resell quickly. But they try to entice me at regular intervals. Don't go there. And don't m be hanging out on the dealer's lot letting 'em chat you up during oil changes.

When you're ready for a new truck, sell the one you have outright.

Probably has a customer requesting something similar to what you have. This puts said dealer in a position to put the screws to two truck buyers and come out smelling like a rose. Simply tell them you will reach out when ready and until then your preference is to be left alone.

Say you did sell it to this dealer or trade it in or whatever he's asking for. What would you replace it with?

It is BS. They don't care about your truck at all. They'd light that thing on fire if it made them a profit.

Their business model is to make roughly 5-7k off your trade and 5-7k off your new purchase. So yeah, they are very excited to hear from you.

Market is soft. He can offer bottom dollar to you and then turn around and mark it up because it's a rare color.

"We really want to help you out and make this work, but with the way the market is right now, it's the best we can do."

    Give him a ridiculous number.

“$60k is the lowest I’ll go. Don’t call until you can offer me that”

    He should get the picture.

Also, if your truck is cavalry blue, then it is not a TRD Pro.

If you truly have a blue TRD Pro, then it's a 2019, and it's voodoo blue, not cavalry.

Toyota didn't make a TRD Pro Tundra in 2018.

They do this to everyone a couple of years after buying a new vehicle.
    You're not that special.
They probably make more $$ selling a used vehicle than a new one..
Tell them to take you off the call list..

Funny the dealership called me last week for a Valentine's Day oil change special.
They changed the oil on my truck 2 weeks ago..

Actually my dealership does that every time I take it in for maintenance. The leave a flyer in the passenger seat. Told them stop but they said is standard practice. One time I call to find out what's the offer and of course was insulting.

To me, this is a glaring conflict of interest. The establishment you're trusting to keep your vehicle in tip top shape wants to you to sell it to them so they can sell you a new one. The incentive is for your truck to NOT last as long as possible.

This is why I don't do dealer service.

I was offered $8,000 for my Tacoma! I almost took it but then I sold it on marketplace for $21,000 instead

I've got 3 locals I trust when I don't have the time (or the tools) to do a bigger job myself. Two independent family-run shops and a Land Cruiser nut whose front yard always has a few 300k+ mile 80s and 100s in it.

They also happen to be significantly cheaper than the dealer. Good folks. One of them I can even bring OEM parts to.

It'd be worth it to look around.

I do almost all my work myself. There are only a couple shops I trust and I only take my vehicles in for very difficult jobs.

Not a Toyota shop, but Dillons Automotive in Katy is one of the best I’ve found if you ever need work out of warranty.

Did you mean $18,000? $13k is a big difference from what the dealer was offering.

When buying just make them a fair offer (at minimum 3% below msrp) and leave. When they start the crap, just say "You already know my price, there's no negotiating!" Then, end the call. Do not ever "fall in love" with any vehicle and expect a respectable deal. Lastly, in the finance office, politely say "No thanks" to the countless additional coverages, plans, etc. that they will push hard.

Nope. I was shocked it was so low. I was thinking about doing the new tundra and was going to make a deal if they gave me ~15k. They came back with 8k and I politely declined and listed it on marketplace. Sold it and bought my 21.

My dealer is terrible though so I dunno if that has something to do with it. They have massive markups still

Dealer sent me a post card with a trade offer for my 2009 Tacoma. I sent it back to them stating that this ridiculous I bought my truck there and you all know what it is worth. My reply led to a relationship with the sales director. I had 87k on my Tacoma and really wanted a new Baja. Every dealer I talked to wanted MSRP or more for one. Sales director found one at a dealer 200 miles away. We had already agreed on a price and they paid to ship it. He made me a good deal on trade at $4k less then I paid new for a 4 year old truck. The post card was for $8k less then I received.
