    Friends,

Unfortunately have had a number of issues with the dealer near me, and last time I was in the shop, the tech put a nice metal-on-metal mark in my drivers door. Didn't say anything about it, but I noticed it when I got the truck back. Long story short, they offered to fix it and had the truck for a couple days - said they repainted the whole door (truck is 9 months old).

It has been about a month since that happened, and I consistently have started to notice a "foggy/cloudy"-ness to the paint in one area. I have attached a couple pictures, as I am not real sure how to best describe it. It's almost like it needs to be shined, but I am no expert in paint and wanted to see if anyone has dealt with something similar. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, that looks to me like a shit buffing job. I seriously doubt they painted the whole door. Is that where the damage was?
Does the spot seem to “move” when you move your head around? Looks like it could be a pretty severe hologram.

Clean that panel up, and then in really solid light look carefully across the door from front to back, back to front, and up and down looking for a blend line. One spot on the panel looking that goofy makes me think even though they told you they painted the door they actually spot sanded and refinished the one spot and then tried to blend it into the rest of the panel with clear. Not inherently a bad thing, if the tech knows what he's doing you'll never be able to tell. If he half asses it it can come out looking like that.

Thanks for your response. It is strange because it is slightly above where the damage was, and there are two spots where it is "foggy". I washed the truck last night, did not wax or buffer, and it is still clearly there. The spot does not seem to move much at all, it just depends on if you can see it based on the sunlight. The below picture was taken this AM, after the wash last night and is in a parking garage - still pretty visible.

Thank you for the response as well, I am going to use the light on my phone and track across the door as you suggested for blend lines. I am thinking they did not paint the whole door, as you mentioned. I am mainly concerned about them doing the job correctly, particularly as it was the damage was caused by them.

Similar issue with the dealer I purchased from. Picked up from service and they left a deep scratch in drivers door. Didn’t say a word to me, but i walked right back in and bitched. Whoever they had fix the paint did a piss poor job, bad sanding, over spray on wheels, door handle, steps, door liner. Even sprayed over the protective clear piece on door edge.

I spent 4 months and multiple calls to Toyota corporate before they finally paid a dealership of my choice to fix their shit paint job.

Have a reputable Toyota dealership that has their own collision center check it out. See what they say and if need be, goto corporate.

Either it’s marred up from buffing or they jacked up the clear coat some other way. Pretty positive that’s not a whole door repaint. I’d be pretty livid.

That's rough man, especially if it was for a little door ding. I'd have rather them just sharpie the damn thing instead of giving me a big cloud on a BLACK truck... That'd make me more mad than original damage depending on the original mark. Clearly I'm no expert, but looks like you got some good advice above...

Hope they do right by you for their mistake.
